Registered Nurse

£15.36 per hour (equivalent to AFC band 6)

Oundle School is one of the country’s premier co-educational boarding and day schools.  The School is spread throughout the historic town of Oundle, which is situated approximately 12 miles from Peterborough.

To start in September 2017, we are seeking two Nurses, one to work as a Bank Nurse, the other to work contracted hours on either a full time (average 40 hours per week) or part time (average 20 hours per week) basis.

The Health Centre offers a 24/7 service to pupils in term time, with the School Doctors operate GP surgeries for the boarders (under the NHS) at the Health Centre, while a team of Registered Nurses provide a range of health services.   A boarding school provides a unique and varied working environment providing urgent, emergency and routine care, supporting pupils with long term conditions, health care profiling and planning and providing public health education for pupils and staff.

Typical duties include assisting with medicals for new pupils, vaccination programmes and on-going daily medical support for sports injuries and illness. Night shifts are shared amongst the nursing team; sleeping facilities are provided but staff are expected to provide waking cover when there are in-patients. Nurses generally work on average one night shift each a week.

Due to the nature of the role, the Registered Nurse will work term time only, which is 33 weeks in each academic year.  The successful candidate will therefore enjoy lengthy holiday periods.

The contracted hours role could be either full time (160 hours over a four week rota) or part time (80 hours over a four week rota).  In addition, you will work 15 “floating” hours over the year, for requirements such as training.  Salary is based on an hourly rate of £15.36, equivalent to NHS band 6.  Annual salary will be £22,969 per annum for the full time role or £11,612 per annum for the part time role.

The Bank Nurse will provide cover as needed on a casual basis during Oundle School term time.  Salary will be paid at an hourly rate of £15.36, with an additional payment for holiday entitlement.

Applicants must be Registered Nurse with a valid NMC registration PIN and evidence of continuing education within the nursing sector.

Application closing date: 4 July 2017 (9am)

Interview date: 11&12 July 2017

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. You will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
