Job Description

To provide support as a member of the senior management team and to the CEO across a range of duties, including setting and achieving of targets. The post holder will need to pro-actively participate as a Senior Management Team member, becoming involved in strategy and wider business development issues, seeking out opportunities that will maximise the potential of the hospital. The post holder will manage a significant group of individuals across different functions, giving strategic and operational guidance to ensure patient experience is of the highest quality. The COO will represent the CEO on operational project leadership.

As well as acting as Chief Operating Officer for The Portland Hospital, the post holder is also COO for Surgical Services in both The Harley Street Clinic and The Portland Hospital leading our Theatre teams operationally (clinical responsibility rests with the Chief Nursing Officer)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide input as a member of the Senior Management Team, comprising CEO, CNO, CFO and CHRO
  • Identifying new opportunities for business growth
  • Contribution to the overall success and profitability of the hospital through revenue development and effective cost management
  • Display excellent people management skill across a diverse range of functions and professions
  • Ensure excellence in customer service is achieved within all business areas
  • Drive forward new objectives and programs to ensure effective management and control of defined areas of responsibility
  • Develop excellent relationships with Consultants, supporting their practice with sound management advice and direction
  • Display an acute awareness of Health & Safety across all hospital departments and functions, ensuring compliance with legislation and codes of practice
  • Development and management of Theatre services including ensuring high standards of quality are balanced with operational efficiency,
  • Drive marketing and business development strategy for the hospital



Skills & Experience

  • Educated to a high standard, MBA or similar is desirable
  • Extensive experience working at a managerial level within healthcare
  • Previous Operation Management experience
  • Knowledge of financial and management accounts
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to implement robust systems of cost control and cost monitoring
