Situated in Stoke on Trent, HMYOI Werrington is a small young offenders establishment taking both sentenced and remands young people aged 15-18. Whilst there is no inpatient unit, 24/7 nursing cover is required.

The role will be an experience like no other requiring diverse and mixed nursing skills and background. One minute you could be delivering a chronic disease clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMYOI Werrington, we’re looking for a Nurse to come and join our team.

So what do we have to offer?

We have a healthcare centre based in the middle of the Prison, with treatment rooms on the wings. We recognise training and development is important and we run varied courses to up skill and develop the nursing team, at Werrington you'll gain an insight and training in Mental Health and Substance Misuse.

If you are new to offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role.

Job requirements:

As a Staff Nurse (RGN) with valid NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and a real passion for taking your skills even further.

It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations.

Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

The salary for this role is £24,000 - £29,000 - dependent on experience (pro-rata if part-time).

There is 24hr nursing cover within the establishment with the shifts being:

Main shift 0730-1530
Late shift 1300-2100
Night shift 2045-0745

As a Staff Nurse within primary care, you can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.
