Part-time School Nurse

SCHOOL NURSE - BRISTOL
Fixed term Part-time

Our client is a large independent day and boarding school in Bristol with over 1300 pupils aged 2 to 18, two large commercial sports facilities, a commercial theatre and over 600 staff.

A vacancy has arisen for RGN or RSCN, required to join their progressive Health Centre team, situated within this prestigious school. Experience of A&E, practice nursing, paediatrics or minor injuries would be desirable, as would vaccination/phlebotomy skills or the willingness to undertake training in this. This role requires the ability to work as part of a team as well as autonomously, and flexibility is essential.

The position is Part Time - Term time only. One year fixed-term contract
Work Pattern - Term-time only (plus availability for up to 15 days outside of term if required), 28 hours per week, 7 hours per day (including some weekends).


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Professional
1.1 To adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct for Nurses, Midwives and Health Visitors and be conversant with the Scope of Professional Practice and other NMC advisory papers.
1.2 To exercise awareness of professional responsibilities by organising her/his own work to include time to become familiar with current relevant literature and, taking opportunities for personal and professional development.
1.3 To use evidence based practice to develop and maintain a high quality standard of nursing.
2. Managerial
2.1 To be familiar with current school policies and procedures.
2.2 To participate in the Performance Appraisal process with the Senior Nurse.
2.3 To keep accurate comprehensive, updated records and written reports, as required by Clifton College and other statutory agencies.
3. Clinical
3.1 To assess, plan and evaluate care programmes in relation to pupils with special educational and health needs.

3.2 To work in partnership with children, parents and the school community to address identified needs

3.3 Support, advise counsel and refer children experiencing mental health problems.

3.4 Assist in the training for school-based staff to support children with healthcare needs, e.g. asthma, diabetes or epilepsy.

3.5 Provide support and advice for parents, carers and school staff on childhood illnesses and the management and control of infection and communicable diseases;

4. Educational
4.1 The current emphasis on health promotion in schools and the community means that this is a key part of the school nurse's role and should focus on:

· nutrition and physical activity;
· mental health and wellbeing;
· sexual health and relationships;
· oral and dental health;
· substance abuse, including smoking and alcohol.
