About the Job:

As a Staff Nurse you will be an integral part of the healthcare team and will be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse led clinics, reviewing patient’s histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to.

You will also be working as part of a larger multi-disciplinary team, alongside the substance misuse and mental health teams.

Are you new to prison healthcare? Do not worry... you will be supported and mentored throughout your first 6 months with Care UK by experienced teams of highly skilled nurses and practitioners as well as management.

About Care UK and HMP Pentonville

Care UK is the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to over 25,000 offenders in over 35 prisons across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

At HMP Pentonville there is a large purpose built healthcare centre which has inpatient unit, a day care facility for patients with mental health problems that are managed on the wings. There are also a number of consulting rooms both within the main prison and in the Healthcare Centre.

On each of the wings there is a primary care facility incorporating a GP's clinic and area for dispensing of medication. These also include; Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Podiatry & Physiotherapy.

Further Job Information

We welcome Full-Time / Part-Time or Job Share applications.

HMP Pentonville is a 24/7 healthcare facility and therefore, you will be required to work weekdays, nights, weekends and public holidays.

We welcome informal visits by appointment so please do contact us for more information and to arrange this.

Please note that offers of employment are subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and receipt of satisfactory references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

You will be a Registered Nurse (RGN) looking to develop your current skills in a unique and ever changing environment. You will have a passion for learning and development, as well as having the initiative to bring new ideas and opinions on how to improve the healthcare services.

Prison Healthcare experience is not essential although we do ask that you have experience within primary care.
