The London Bridge Hospital campus in South East London encompasses the recently opened outpatients and diagnostic centre in The Shard, the large world-class hospital based at the Tooley Street site, and a further five outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City, Canary Wharf and Kent.
Patients benefit from multidisciplinary streamlined care, investment in leading-edge technology and London teaching hospital consultants. Our theatre staff works across the London Bridge Hospital campus theatre suite which comprises of 10 theatres across the main hospital and Private Care at Guys.
The theatres provide a vibrant, exciting and professional environment where the advance equipment and technology is second to none and includes; fully integrated theatres equipped with the Stryker system, laminar flow systems and da Vinci surgical system. The theatre team comprises of consultants and Practitioners who have vast experience and knowledge across a range of specialties.
There are many complex procedures carried out daily, across a range of acute specialities, including orthopaedics, thoracic, urology, spinal, gynaecology, reconstructive, complex liver, transplant, neurosurgical and cardiac procedures, as well as general surgery. In fact the only specialities London Bridge Hospital campus does not undertake are ophthalmic and Paediatric Surgery.
Job Description
As a Senior Theatre Practitioner in Neuro/Spinal, you will be responsible and accountable for providing high quality clinical assistance to the Surgeon during surgical procedures.
You will ensure professional and national standards are met in accordance to the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC)/ Health Professions Council (HPC) and be responsible for assessing, developing, implementing and evaluating programmes of care for patients undergoing surgical procedures.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assessing, planning, delivering and evaluation of peri-operative patient care Working with members of the Multi Disciplinary Team following local protocols and standards Awareness of the effective management of resources within the department
- Participate in education, training and development of other staff.
- Help to control cross infection by observing departmental policy regarding dress, the maintenance of a clean working environment, decontamination and sterilisation procedures and asepsis.
- Prepare patients for clinical/ operative procedures, both in anaesthetics and surgery.
- Provide assistance in clinical/ operative procedures, both anaesthetics and surgery.
- Ensure the accurate collection of data in relation to theatre activity.
- To undertake such duties as may be required from time to time as are consistent with the responsibilities of the grade and the needs of the service.
- Participate in the reporting of incidents and comply with any ensuing investigations.
Skills & Experience
- 1st Level Registration with evidence of meeting NMC requirement.
- Competency to scrub for all spinal, cranial surgeries.
