About The Facility

Located in the heart of London's esteemed medical district, the newly-refurbished Princess Grace Hospital offers a wide range of medical and surgical specialties. Supported by world-class doctors from leading London teaching hospitals, the hospital has 120 beds, including a purpose-built intensive care unit, catering for Level 3 patients. Our eight fully-equipped theatres include three laminar flow theatres for orthopaedic surgery, a hybrid theatre to enable complex vascular surgery, a robotic surgery suite along with some of the most advanced radiological diagnostic facilities in the country.

30 Devonshire is a busy orthopaedic facility within outpatients at the Princess Grace, specializing in complex orthopaedic and sports injury patients. Job Description

The Clinical Nurse Specialist provides clinical expertise to the departmental team. The scope of this role is broad, working with consultants to set up protocols, seeing patients for pre-assessment, inpatient and follow up outpatients, working independently and as a team member; enhancing staff skills and knowledge about caring for patients undergoing lower limb surgery. They will be a highly visible role model to all nurses within the team.

Salary between £39,174 and £45,419 plus HCA benefits

Working hours 37.5 per week

Duties & Responsibilities

  • They are responsible and accountable for own practice within the clinical area and for delivering a quality service to all stakeholders.
  • They are responsible for identifying areas of their service for development; then implementing and evaluating change using current research, audit and experience
  • Achieve the highest possible standard of nursing care which balances customer satisfaction with the most efficient use of resources
  • Work independently to support the patients, Consultants, nursing teams and Allied Health Professionals within their defined scope of practice
  • An educational resource to both patients and their families/carers and all clinical staff
  • Proactively promote their service within The Princess Grace and HCA, participating in relevant forums
  • Liaise in a professional manner with internal and external customers
  • Responsive and sensitive to patients' physical, psychological, spiritual and cultural requirements
  • Continuous liaison with the primary consultant, anaesthetists, linked physicians and other teams of the MDT (physiotherapists, occupational therapists, etc)
  • Undertake pre and post operative assessments and the care of orthopaedic patients whilst an inpatient.
  • Wound assessment and care
  • Assist with post op dressings during clinic periods
  • To be the main contact for any patient queries and to be able to give good clinical advice.


Skills & Experience

  • First level registration
  • Orthopaedic degree level course (Desirable)
  • Post registration experience, of which some within the relevant clinical speciality
  • Post basic qualification in clinical specialty relevant to practice area
  • Tissue viability experience
  • Experience in Trauma and /or Orthopaedics
  • Experience as a CNS(or equivalent) or sister
  • Teaching and Assessing and/or Mentorship qualification
