The Portland Hospital is internationally renowned for clinical excellence it is the only independent hospital in London and the UK entirely dedicated to women and children. Our inpatient and outpatient specialties reflect this providing clinical expertise in Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Women`s Health. The hospital has been consistently growing over the past few years, almost doubling since 2008.

Our Paediatric wards hold 56 inpatient beds + 8 day case and are equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced medical and surgical care, including a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit which reflects the acuity and complex nature of the children who are admitted to the hospital. The Portland Hospital has a large number of international Paediatric patients, often funded by the relevant embassies.

Our brand new Urgent care centre is set to open in 2018. Children will attend the department for consultations and may require diagnostic tests and minor procedures to be carried out.

Job Description

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated and experienced RSCN/Child trained nurse who would provide clinical, managerial professional leadership in our brand new Urgent care centre. The post holder will be required to be hands on assisting in clinical practice, education and training. You will support the standards of clinical practice and should be able to provide specialist nursing advice to support and facilitate high quality, individualised care to patients and relatives/carers in collaboration with the multi professional team, in line with HCA policies, guidelines and national best practice guidance.

Salary between £39,174 and £45,419 plus HCA benefits (dependent on experience)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage and co-ordinate the clinical area on a regular basis, directly supervising junior staff and patient care.
  • Maintain a clinical knowledge base and practice advanced skills and nurse unwell patients. To supervise others in the delivery of these skills.
  • Manage the quality of nursing care delivered highlighting areas for development and improvement
  • Maintain and promote effective communication with the ward team and all members of the multi-disciplinary team and other wards or departments, including formal presentation of information relating to your ward or department.
  • Ensure all staff within the UCC understand their role and contribute to patient safety.
  • Assist in providing a senior nursing response in the event of an emergency.
  • Inform patients/families of delays to any services and actively try and find solutions.
  • Manage efficient and effective use of temporary staffing making sure there is a safe skill mix.
  • Take the lead in ensuring the provision of care is in accordance with all HCA’s policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates awareness of financial and budgetary issues relating to the department.
  • Manage staff rotas, annual leave, attendance, performance and staffing issues in the clinical area.
  • Act as a preceptor/ mentor and provide preceptorship and mentorship training to the members of the nursing team as well as students.
  • Participates in the appraisal process of others and provides feedback and guidance.

Skills & Experience

  • Current NMC registration
  • Nursing Degree (Child Branch/RSCN)
  • Mentorship course qualification
  • Management/leadership skills
  • Valid EPLS/ALS
