Break into Prison healthcare!

HMP Bullingdon is a local Cat B prison for adult males and young offenders. It has a training function and regime for sex offenders and holds up to 1,140 prisoners, with a 21 bed inpatient unit. To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Bullingdon, we’re looking for Healthcare Assistants to come and join our team.

About the role:

As a Healthcare Assistant, your responsibilities will vary. You will be involved in the implementation of clinical care packages such as ECG, urine analysis and blood pressure checks. You could also be involved with phlebotomy and assessment, treatment and the evaluation of patients’ care. You will support and assist patients with the activities of daily living, work with the Pharmacy Team to help them fulfill their daily tasks and you will be encouraged to take the lead on wellbeing promotion clinics. If you do not have relevant training in phlebotomy, we would be willing to provide training and development in this area, subject to service needs.

About you:

We are on the lookout for Healthcare Assistants who have experience of working within a Primary Care setting including GP surgeries and hospitals. You’ll hold an NVQ 2/3 in Health and Social Care and must have a willingness to undertake training in Mental Health Awareness, suicide prevention, self-harm and ACCT procedures as well as Health Promotion and screening.

Further job information:

This is a permanent full-time role, working 37.5 hours per week across 7 days on a rotational basis including weekends and public holidays. The salary for this role is £17,000 - £19,000 per annum - dependent on experience. Care UK benefits include 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, free onsite parking, free use of the onsite gym, cycle to work scheme, 2-5% company contributory pension scheme and 2 x life assurance. Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to receipt of satisfactory references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting. Please note that we reserve the right to close this advert earlier than stated if a sufficient number of applications have been received.

Care UK is the Health in Justice market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

We’ll utilise the wellbeing model to put patient care and safety at the heart of everything we do through assessing prisoners across 5 domains of; physical and mental wellbeing, substance misuse, relationships and resettlement. The patient and clinician complete a wellbeing wheel assessment to set goals and outcomes in partnership. The patient will complete the assessment and any needs identified will be met by our fully integrated service delivery team.
