Royal Aberdeen Children's Hospital

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 6 Children’s Nurse to join our Community Children’s Nurse Team, as the Charlie House Community Children’s Nurse. You will be based within the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and be involved in assessing and providing care throughout NHS Grampian in the community setting.

You will care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions, including complex care and palliative care. We have robust links with hospital and the community multidisciplinary health services and with education and social care.

The successful candidate will be able to work well in a team but also autonomously and would be supported by the Band 7 Team Leader. The Band 6 role will provide leadership and support for junior members of the Charlie House team, as it develops. As a team we are committed to delivering high quality care and are looking to recruit staff that are able to demonstrate the same enthusiasm to help us develop our service further. Car driver/owner essential. We fully support staff in development and training.

What is Charlie House? Charlie House is a small, locally based charity providing help and support to children and young people with life limiting conditions and their families. Charlie House support these families through its Activities Club, a chance for these special children to try out new exciting activities and for the whole family to make friends and gain support.

Their annual activity holiday to Kielder Forest and Water Park allows families to relax and unwind, and for the children to try out activities they wouldn’t get to anywhere else, such as zip wiring, rock climbing and sailing. The Children and Family Support Manager will work closely with the Community Team to offer as full and varied a support system as possible.

Charlie House still have a dream to open a specialist care facility for planned and emergency respite, day activities and end of life care. As the Charlie House Community Nurse, you will have the unique opportunity to help develop the Charlie House Community Team from day one; working with both NHS Grampian and the charity to provide practical and emotional support to these special families.

About NHS Grampian

NHS Grampian, which is one of the 14 Regional Health Boards in Scotland, provides healthcare services to the North-East of the country, covering the local government areas administered by Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Morayshire Councils. We employ around 14,500 staff who deliver our services to half a million people spread across 3,000 square miles of city, town, village and rural communities. We have extremely close links to the University of Aberdeen (with its internationally renowned Medical School and new Dental School) and The Robert Gordon University. These close links have made us a centre of pioneering medical research in a number of fields.Aberdeen, as a major Scottish city, is where most of our hospitals are located. Elgin in Moray, is the site of Dr Gray’s and the principal general hospital in the west of Grampian. In addition, there are a further 14 community hospitals, situated in each of the main towns. As an employer, we take great care to ensure that all staff have a safe, happy and professional environment in which to work.
