Clinical Nurse Specialist

Ascot Rehabilitation is a centre of excellence in delivering specialist consultant-led rehabilitation to patients with neurological conditions, attracting patients from all around the world. We are continuously investing in our facilities to ensure our patients have access to the latest treatments and technology.

We are now recruiting for a Senior Nurse to join our multi-disciplinary team.This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our highly trained multidisciplinary team.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To be an active member of Ascot Rehab trans-disciplinary team
  • To build up and maintain key relationships with referring services and to facilitate appropriate referrals, and an understanding of the roles within the neuro rehabilitation team
  • To be responsible for the supervision, line management and appraisals of junior staff, including nurses and care staff
  • To support self and service development through active participation in continuing professional development (CPD) and by participating in any audit or research being undertaken by the service
  • To carry responsibility for the management of the day to day patient care on the unit
  • Develop the skills and competencies of the care team
  • Promote and maintain a high standard of nursing care
  • To work within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and CQC Standards as well as following internal policies and procedures
  • Planning, directing and delivery of high quality person centered care
  • To write the nursing strategy
  • Oversee all aspects of medicine management – ensuring medicines are appropriately received, stored and administered to our clients.
  • To communicate information related to complex conditions from assessment through treatment and discharge to patients, carer’s and families.
  • To deputise for the rehabilitation manager in her absence for clinical issues that may arise
  • To complete preadmission screens for patients referred off site to determine eligibility for admission

Experience & Skills required

  • Good communication skills both written and verbal
  • Able to establish good working relationships with people across the organisation
  • To maintain the highest level of confidentiality at all times
  • Work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Experience in working with people with a range of neurological problems in a rehabilitation environment
  • Experience and knowledge in supporting and treating people with continence management problems including teaching self-catheterisation, management of catheter’s and bowel management programmes
  • Experience in teaching and supporting people with independent medication management
  • Experience and skills in managing tracheostomy and weaning tracheostomy’s
  • Experience with working with people PEGs, modified diets and other swallowing problems
  • Experience working with people with communication problems and using different modalities to communicate
