Advance research scope and capability and foster dynamic health partnerships

The University of Newcastle’s Faculty of Health and Medicine is the most comprehensive health faculty of its kind in Australia and a unique research and clinical partnership with the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD).  The Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery seeks an outstanding and dynamic senior academic leader in this new role.

Aligned with one of Australia’s strongest education brands and reporting dually to the Dean, School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Executive Director Clinical Services, Nursing and Midwifery, HNELHD, this is an intellectually challenging role, in which you will:

  • Collaborate, inform and deliver innovative interdisciplinary research partnerships between the University, health service providers and industry
  • Encourage and enable a shared and trusted dialogue between senior clinicians and academia to shape research capability, and
  • Design and showcase students’ learning outcomes through the University’s commitment to technology-led pedagogies

With a broad remit and significant responsibility within both organisations, the successful candidate will demonstrate their enthusiasm, resilience and capacity to manage this role’s complex mandate and the wide footprint of the School of Nursing and Midwifery and the local health districts.

You will be an expert in your field and bring extensive knowledge of teaching nursing and midwifery to undergraduate and postgraduate students to ensure their future employment as effective practitioners with a strong sense of reflective practice, commitment to lifelong learning and ability to respond positively to change.

In partnering with the HNELHD, the School of Nursing and Midwifery is shaping and driving transformative student experiences and ultimately, patient care.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a track record of managing key and complex stakeholder relationships, and of identifying and forging trusted research partnerships informed by clinical practice and new technologies in delivering healthcare.

Your experience will enable you to inform and broaden the scope and geographical reach of partnerships. Having managed meaningful engagement and University partnerships with Government, healthcare providers and industry, you will have secured significant research funding, and this will be demonstrated by your deep and measurable academic track record.

The School of Nursing and Midwifery is ranked in the Top 100 in the world and welcomes a candidate with a shared passion and pride in research, teaching and mentoring students using the most recent educational technologies and learning platforms, whilst deepening the School’s already impressive clinical engagement.

Outstanding leadership, interpersonal communication, and negotiation skills are essential in this senior role.  You will bring people on board through your enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity.

This is a coveted opportunity to join the University of Newcastle and support its vision to stand as a global leader, creating a better future for Australia through innovation, impact and a commitment to excellence and equity.  We also encourage applications from suitable Australian academic leaders currently working overseas and looking to return to Australia.
