Job Details

Do you want to get back to delivering truly patient-focused care and still have time to see the penguins? How about living within a thriving community, set in a stunning natural environment? If so, come and join our friendly team of experienced health service professionals in the beautiful Falkland Islands.

The Role

The King Edward VII Memorial Hospital in Stanley, Falkland Islands will give you experience of caring for a diverse range of patients from Paediatrics to Care of the Elderly; medical, surgical and obstetrics, in addition to casualty (Accident & Emergency). We are the only hospital in the Falkland Islands and along with our outpatient clinics, we have 18 acute beds, one maternity bed, a single bedded isolation unit, a two bedded intensive care unit and seven long-stay nursing beds.

You will be given dedicated time to learn and develop your own skills by working very closely with our multi-disciplinary team of highly experienced senior nurses and clinicians. In addition to our full time GPs, we have a Consultant Surgeon and a Consultant Anaesthetist within the hospital. Visiting Specialists also come to the hospital regularly, mainly from the UK, to provide care for our patients.

The range of patient conditions you will treat and the specialities you will cover are hard to match in a single ward in the UK. You will work across disciplines, allowing you to develop your skills as a true generalist. Due to the size of the hospital and the number of inpatients we treat, we are able to provide dedicated one-to-one care to our patients in a non-pressured environment.

The Person

Whether you are newly qualified looking for your first supportive role or an experienced nurse looking for a change, we are looking for flexible, registered nurses to join our team.

Although you will be expected to work flexibly across an on-call rota, nursing in the Falkland Islands will allow you both the time to care for your patients and for yourself, giving you the opportunity to explore this fantastic community and enjoy the beautiful landscape and stunning wildlife.

Core Requirements

  • UK NMC Registration, Registered Nurse (RN) or equivalent.
  • Nursing degree or equivalent qualification and work experience allowing for registration.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development, enabling revalidation.
  • ‘Can-do’ style, reflecting the needs of the role to be flexible and multi-disciplined across a range of nursing specialisms.
  • Good bedside manner, sensitive and empathetic to the spoken and unspoken needs of patients, families and colleagues.
  • For Senior Staff Nurse, at least three years post-registration experience, and organisational skills to prioritise workloads and manage staffing across the team.

The Package

  • Initial 2-4 Years Fixed Term Contract, with potential for extension by mutual agreement.
  • Salary Range: £25-34k, starting salaries will be dependent upon experience and grade.
  • 25% Gratuity paid upon successful completion of the contract.
  • 30 Days Annual Leave, plus government and public holidays (totalling 41 days leave)
  • Relocation Allowance, to help with moving costs.
  • Flights package for you and your dependents, including mid-term return flight home.
  • Government Housing for rent at a subsidised rate and a starter pack to help you get settled in.
