As a Lead Clinical Pharmacist you will be a key member of the Pharmacy team as such develop, monitor and lead all aspects of clinical pharmacy services to ensure high quality, innovative and up-to-date pharmacy services which consistently meet the needs of all clients within the hospital.

This is a full time role working 37.5 hours per week on a really competitive salary.

Job Description

A key member of the Pharmacy Team as such they will assist in the provision of a comprehensive pharmacy service which consistently meet the needs of all service users. Will assist with staff training and development. Ovesee stock management and dealing with account queries. The post holder has day to day responsibility for various elements within the dispensary and a mentorship role to trainee technicians/pharmacy assistants.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide a clinical pharmacy service to inpatients, outpatients, nursing and medical staff within The Princess Grace facillities.
  • To provide a clinical pharmacy service within the critical care unit, if required.
  • To lead in an area of special interest, if required.
  • To evaluate and re-shape, together with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist, existing clinical pharmacy services to give emphasis to patient centred care.
  • To deputise for the Lead Clinical Pharmacist when required.
  • To collaborate with senior clinical mangers to formulate and implement strategy for clinical services in your area of special interest.
  • Participate in discharge planning, patient counselling, patient medication reviews
  • To act as expert knowledge base in your area of special interest.
  • To assist, when required, with the training and development of all clinical pharmacy staff, including Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • To act as a tutor for staff, when required.
  • To participate in relevant corporate teaching initiatives and in education and training of nursing and medical staff when required.
  • If required, undertake membership / representation within appropriate clinical forums.
  • To forge links where appropriate with external groups/institutions.
  • To provide input, when required, to the Integrated Governance Committee, Medicines Management Committee, Medication Safety Group, Audit Committee, MAC and other specific clinical committees, directly or indirectly via the Pharmacy Manager.
  • To participate in policy, procedure, guideline setting and audit work
  • To critically appraise literature around new drugs where appropriate and consideration for inclusion in hospital formulary
  • To participate in the reporting and investigation of medication incidents, especially in your area of special interest.
  • To assist in providing an outpatient pharmacy and dispensary service.
  • To participate in the responsible pharmacist duties/rota, ensuring safe and effective running of the pharmacy in relation to the sale and supply of medicines

Skills & Experience

  • Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council, with a BPharm, MPharm or BSC in Pharmacy
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society is desirable
  • Additional postgraduate clinical qualification e.g. Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or MSc in Clinical Pharmacy or other relevant post-graduation qualification
  • Relevant hospital experience
  • Experience in a clinical specialist area – e.g. experience in oncology and Intensive Care Medicine is highly desirable
