Our Paediatric wards hold 56 inpatient beds + 11 day case and are equipped with the latest technology to provide advanced medical and surgical care, including a Paediatric Neurorehabilitation Unit and a Paediatric Intensive Care Unit which reflects the acuity and complex nature of the children who are admitted to our hospital. The Portland Hospital has a large number of international Paediatric patients, often funded by relevant embassies.

The Portland Hospital is the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK. The hospital provides for both consultant-led and midwifery-led deliveries, having an 18 bedded ward to facilitate this. Alongside this there is a 12 bedded Gynecology and Women’s Health in-patient ward. The Portland Hospital also has a large outpatient department for all areas of its clinical expertise, to facilitate continuous care or simpler procedures.

Job Description

As the Senior 2 Physiotherapist for Paediatric Orthopaedics, you will be expected to carry a clinical caseload with support from senior therapists, work within a multidisciplinary team and support service development projects. You will be responsible for providing a high standard of care whilst presenting a professional manner at all times. 

This will involve both inpatient and outpatient caseloads.

This is a FTC for 12 months

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide appropriate and effective physiotherapy intervention to children with a wide range of orthopaedic and musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of work undertaken. To work within the standards and guidelines of the team, the Hospital, CSP and HCPC code of ethics.
  • Carry out appropriate and accurate assessment and treatment of patients with diverse clinical presentations and complex needs, utilising appropriate assessment tools.
  • Formulate and implement individual treatment programmes based on information from assessment, clinical knowledge and using a sound clinical reasoning process.
  • Provide treatment interventions in an adaptable manner where there may be barriers to understanding such as foreign language, sensory impairments or cognitive and perceptual difficulties.
  • Apply clinical reasoning, critical thinking and reflection to effectively contribute to team clinical decision making, client diagnoses and/or in identifying the scope of impairment.
  • Evaluate intervention and progress through reflection, analysis and outcome measures and document appropriately.
  • Support patient centered care across the team, ensuring that patients and their carers are involved in the planning and delivery of their own care and that cultural and linguistic differences and issues are recognised and intervention is adapted accordingly.

Skills & Experience

  • Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent.
  • Health Professions Council Physiotherapy registration.
  • Member of Chartered Society of Physiotherapists or equivalent is desirable.
  • Member of professional interest group is desirable.
  • Evidence of postgraduate education in the field of paediatrics and orthopaedics/musculoskeletal.
  • Post registration broad clinical experience in all areas of paediatrics.
  • Post registration specific experience working with children with neurological conditions and complex disability.
  • Experience in Ponseti technique desirable
