New Year, New Opportunities

Are you looking for a career change or a new challenge to develop your career within an area where there are close working relationships between health and social care professionals and local communities?

Have you ever thought of working in a remote and rural setting where you can have the opportunity to use your knowledge, skills and experience to bring real benefit to the local community?  Within Shetland’s Health and Social Care Partnership we are currently reviewing our nursing services within the community setting seeking to build services which will support individuals to live healthy, active lives within that community for as long as possible with access to appropriate medical and nursing care when required.   As part of this review we are creating posts at a range of different levels across the Career Framework and currently have opportunities for postholders in the following areas of nursing:

Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Primary Care) (Ref: IRC18803)

Across the service we are increasing our numbers of ANP posts to support the ongoing development of a range of patient services which we can provide to support increased access to services, both for scheduled and unscheduled care, as well as enhancing choice in relation to the range of healthcare professionals available for consultation. Whilst based at the Health Centre within Shetland’s capital of Lerwick, you will work flexibly as part of a team of ANPs, providing a front line service for general practice patients in various different locations.  Support and supervision is available from designated General Practitioners (GP’s) and the newly established position of Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Practice Education).

Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Older People’s Care), Intermediate Care Team (Ref: IRC18802)

Following the successful implementation of an Intermediate Care Team, we are expanding the services offered through the team by supporting early assessment, planning and treatment for individuals who become unwell at home and require a rapid response in order to maintain them at home.  The ANP, within the Intermediate Care Team, utilising expert knowledge and clinical judgement will be able to assess, plan and implement programmes of care to support individuals to remain at home with appropriate supportive measures thus avoiding unnecessary hospital admissions.  The ANP will work closely with colleagues in the Community Nursing service and within the wider Multi-disciplinary team based in Lerwick to support the health and care needs of individuals both resident in their own home and within residential care homes within the community setting.

This is a beautiful part of the world, with a satisfyingly different lifestyle from the metropolitan centres. Those who wish to experience a unique life-work balance thrive here. The diverse nature of Shetland’s culture, the stunning scenery, the wildlife, even the local dialect, as well as the spread of different islands all make for particular professional and personal challenges. Shetland is a world where wildlife is truly wild, where otters and seals play in quiet coves, and the air is full of the sound of wild birds, crowding the jagged cliffs in huge and noisy colonies. There are regular sightings of Killer Whales and superb displays of rare sub-arctic flora.

For enquiries please call Miss Edna Mary Watson, Chief Nurse (Community) on 01595 743377 or Vicky Schofield, Lead ANP, Lerwick Health Centre on 07887 825827

Closing date:           Wednesday 30 January 2019
