Support the wellbeing of the nation – and shape your future.

Transforming the life outcomes of the patients who need our help, NHS Blood and Transplant (NHSBT) is a unique organisation in which to base your career. Celebrating innovation and diversity, our highly-skilled teams strive to ensure the blood, tissue and organs that are donated to us aren’t wasted. With a commitment to ongoing research, our world-class knowledge continues to revolutionise what we are capable of and ensures that these valuable gifts are used to best effect. Crucially, our people also work collaboratively – meaning that every single member of NHSBT is directly involved in our life-saving work.

This team-spirit is central to everything we do in Clinical Support. Based in Filton, you will be at the heart of our vital blood collecting work, and how we ensure the safety and wellbeing of our donors. In this office-based role, you will therefore work with senior nurses and doctors to provide advice on donor selection, plus how we manage all blood products after they have been collected. You will also share your knowledge with Session Nurses, updating their clinical skills on the safe collection of blood and ensuring our donors receive the highest levels of care. Helping us achieve our ambitious recruitment and retention targets, you will also act as a source of expert knowledge to other NHSBT departments and external organisations, delivering information on our future direction and engaging them in our plans for the best service delivery.

There is scope to further your leadership capabilities in this multi-layered role, as you will provide input into the wider development and strategic direction of the team. Our staff will look to you for clear guidance, so we’ll expect you to be comfortable working without supervision. As a registered Nurse with experience of planning and delivering teaching programmes, you will therefore have the confidence to initiate and support the development of NHSBT employees and inspire changes in practice. With knowledge of clinical history taking or counselling, you will have a good grasp of clinical audits. If you have experience of leading research or you have knowledge of the clinical aspects of blood donation and care of the donor, that would be desirable but isn’t strictly necessary.

The work involves a 37.5 hour working week from Monday to Friday, with extended hours (17.00 – 20.00 hours week-day and 0930 – 15.30 week-ends) on a national rota basis reimbursed by time off in lieu.

We want every member of NHSBT to be happy in their roles. In fact, we want them to enjoy coming to work every single day, which is why we’ve put training and development measures in place to ensure they continue to thrive in our midst, climbing the ranks of promotion. Enhanced by our friendly and supportive colleagues, there really isn’t a better way to further your career. Join us today, and experience for yourself why NHSBT employees are so proud to be a member of this progressive organisation.

This vacancy will close at midnight on 23rd January 2019.
