An exciting opportunity has arisen in Galway University Hospitals (GUH) for an innovative and motivated Director of Nursing (DON).

GUH is a supra-regional cancer centre and provides tertiary services across the entire West and North-West of Ireland. It is the only Level Four hospital in the Saolta University Health Care Group. The hospital is based on two sites and employs 1,400 nurses; the Director of Nursing is responsible for the professional and clinical leadership for the nursing staff on both sites.

As a member of the hospital’s Executive Management Team, the successful candidate will play an active role in contributing to the strategic direction of the hospital, working closely with the hospital manager to deliver integrated high quality, patient centred care. The hospital has close links with its academic partner, the National University of Ireland Galway (NUI Galway).

The principle objective of the post is to lead, inspire, direct and promote on going improvements in nursing care and to foster a culture that strives for excellence in all aspects of the delivery of patient safety and care. The development of Advanced Nurse Practitioners and the enhancement of the patient’s experience are just some of the exciting projects that the DON will lead on. The successful candidate will have the ability to devise and implement strategy and have experience as a senior nurse in a large complex environment.
