Worcestershire Acute Hospitals – Worcester Royal Hospital and Alexandra Hospital, Surgical Division

We currently have several opportunities in the following departments;

General Surgery

General surgery on the Worcester Royal site comprises of 46 beds accommodating our major elective and emergency surgery for colorectal, upper GI, and bariatric patients. On the Alexandra site we have 28 beds providing care for elective and emergency surgical patients including breast service. We also have a Surgical Clinical Decision Unit (SCDU) on Worcester Royal site with is a short stay surgical assessment unit taking emergency admissions.

Urology

Our urology service is based on the Alexandra site with 21 beds dedicated to support patients undergoing major procedures. We also have the Urology Intervention Centre which provides outpatient investigations whilst working closely with the consultant team and the Urology ward. Staff rotate between the ward area and the clinic as required.

Surgical and Vascular High Care

These currently run independently but plans are in place to merge as one department in the future. Currently providing care for 12 immediate post-operative, intensive care step down or patients in need of close monitoring.

All of the above areas provide an excellent opportunity to widen skills in a specialist area with on-going education and training for all registered nurses.

The wards have an excellent teaching environment for students and have had very positive feedback from our students following placement on the areas. Our teams are well established and we welcome the opportunity to support and induct new staff.

As a trained member of staff you will receive training to become competent in:

  • Induction with a supernumerary period
  • An assigned mentor
  • IV therapy
  • Venepuncture and cannulation
  • Use of PCA’s
  • Male catheterisation
  • Performing ECG’s
  • Being a student assessor by attending the mentorship course
