Job Summary

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day, you might find yourself working in A&E, drugs, mental health or health promotion. It’s this variety that keeps things fresh and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible. At Care UK, our belief in putting the patient first, regardless of the environment or their history, combined with our insistence on quality healthcare has proved to be hugely successful. As a Registered General Nurse, you'll work as part of a team of Primary Care Nurses within HMP Highpoint North & South Integrated Healthcare Services, a Category C adult male prison

Responsible To

It’s not just the environment that’s varied here, the role is too. You can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.

Key Responsibilities

An RGN 1 with NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and experience of carrying out clinical audits. We’ll want to see evidence of your continued professional development, and a real passion for taking your skills even further. It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations. We’re looking for an excellent communicator – someone who can guide and influence others to take the right course of action. Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

About Care UK:

Care UK is the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to over 25,000 offenders in 41 prisons across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care

Additional Information

This is a bank role. Paying £16.38 per hour Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

The sheer breadth of what we do makes this an exciting and dynamic environment in which to stretch your skills. The training we offer here is second-to-none and we’ll support your professional development both in terms of time, and financial support. These roles offer great front-line exposure, including triage work, and we’ll also give you a real say in how things are done. Your ideas and opinions will matter.
