Job Details

Ready for the recognition and rewards you deserve? We don’t just talk about putting employees first. We know that Priory wouldn’t exist without their combined energy, expertise and effort.  So we invest heavily in training, provide first-class support, promote collaborative teamwork and give everyone on our team the opportunities and resources to achieve their full potential.

The Priory Hospital Middleton St George provides specialist inpatient care for people, of adult working age, with mental health needs who present with complex needs and behaviours that challenge, in a safe and supportive environment. The hospital has 73 beds across five wards delivering individual treatment programmes for:

  • High dependency rehabilitation for both males and females with challenging and complex needs
  • Two Specialist DBT treatment units for female personality disorder
  • Mixed 24/7 acute admission, assessment and treatment unit which also provides an inpatient detox service

We also have a small community step-down house in Darlington town centre, for males with challenging and complex needs.

The Priory Hospital Middleton St George  is rated as Good overall by the Care Quality Commission, with each of the 5 key areas of inspection all individually rated as Good.

The post is for a General Adult Psychiatrist to work on a 22 bedded acute in-patient mixed ward. The ward has an established MDT and currently has a whole-time Consultant Psychiatrist.  The service is a consultant-led model of care, staffed by two full-time consultants, of which this post is the second.  The post-holder has responsibility for the day-to-day medical care of half of the patients on the wards (11 out of 22 at maximum occupancy).  There is no out-patient work required.

The on call encompasses a two tier rota system, the post holder would provide senior support at a maximum frequency of 1 in 8 to the first on-call, usually an Advanced Practitioner/Speciality Doctor.

The post holder would be joining an enthusiastic, committed and supportive group of Doctors and Advanced Practitioners and would be part of the planned organic growth and strategic development of the Hospital site. There would be opportunities to be involved in service development, attend CPD events and develop medical education.

We don’t just work together. We listen to each other, share ideas, explore new ways of doing things and actively pursue innovation and excellence is all that we do.
