The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Swindon is proud to have a team of highly skilled, kind and compassionate staff that deliver high quality care for our patients. The Trust provides acute services from the Great Western Hospital and community healthcare services across Swindon. We are an ambitious and progressive Foundation Trust, committed to continuing our quality journey so that we can exceed our patient’s expectations.

We have recently been successful in our bid for £30 million of national funding to develop an Integrated Front Door, expand our Emergency Department, purchase land for potential expansion and to help us develop new models of care, such as an intensive rehabilitation offer. And we have many more ambitious plans. This is a great and exciting milestone which will help us to maintain quality and safety for people in Swindon and the surrounding areas over the coming years.

“Amazing staff and very welcoming”

“Lots of different opportunities”

Would you like the opportunity to work in a unit that inspires the kind of feedback you can read above? Are you a registered Children’s Nurse committed to providing the best care possible for children ranging from 0-18years? Would you like the opportunity to work in a busy, friendly acute children’s unit that prides itself on the service it provides?

If the answer to the above questions is YES then the Children’s’ Unit and Paediatric Assessment Unit at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon is the place for you! We are a 20 bed inpatient ward and an adjacent paediatric assessment unit in which we treat children aged from new-born to 18 years old with a broad range of paediatric conditions including surgery, oncology, orthopaedics and ENT. The unit is supported by a friendly, dedicated and highly skilled medical team and, as a Band 5 nurse, you will also benefit from the support of 6 Band 6 Sisters and an excellent team of Nursery Nurses along with your Band 5 peers.

You will work closely with colleagues in our Neonatal Unit, Maternity Unit, Emergency Department (with its own dedicated Paediatric ED) and have the opportunity to participate in HDU care. There may also be the opportunity to rotate between the different departments giving you excellent opportunities to develop new skills. You will also be able to utilise clinical skills such as triaging, blood transfusions and allergy testing as well as attending courses to develop your knowledge in other areas such the FLAP mentoring course. We also encourage nurses to undertake Link roles in areas such as Mental Health, Diabetes or Respiratory.

We are currently seeking additional Band 5 nurses who possess excellent communication abilities and are able to demonstrate knowledge and skills in assessing, planning and delivering care for all children and their families. Teamwork is an essential part of this role as you will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary team. We can offer full or part time hours and are happy to discuss working patterns to suit your availability.

If you would like to visit the unit on an informal basis we would welcome the opportunity to show you around and meet with our staff. Alternatively, we are happy for you to contact us by phone for a chat about the role, the unit and the exciting opportunities we have.

To arrange a visit or for an informal chat please contact Claire Evans, Ward Manager on 01793 604976

Please note, if you are a student qualifying in Summer 2019, your application will need to be transferred to our centralised student advert.
