BMI Chaucer Hospital is situated in the heart Canterbury and has been serving the population of East Kent for 35 years.

We have an opportunity for an experienced Theatre Practitioner in anaesthetics/recovery/scrub or any combination of the three to join our thriving and busy department. The hospital team is supportive and has a welcome and inclusive culture which encourages development of both interpersonal and professional skills. Everyone plays a part to ensure our patients are given the very best of care and attention whilst in our hospital. The whole hospital estate has recently undergone major refurbishment and has a light, airy, comfortable and clean look and feel which makes it a workplace to be proud of.

The theatre department at Chaucer consists of two main operating theatres carrying out day and inpatient cases. A wide range of specialties are carried out and the staff working within theatre loves the challenge of every day being different.  Theatre practitioners also support the endoscopy service and the Short Procedure Theatre.

This is a bank role working on an “as and when required” basis, you will be required to supplement staffing levels during busy periods and provide cover for existing staff in times of annual leave or absence.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Registered Practitioner with NMC or HCPC registration
  • Approved/recognised anaesthetic course.
  • To work across multiple surgical specialities in either the scrub or anaesthetic role
  • Qualified nurse or ODP - mentorship preferable but not essential.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • BMI Competencies
  • Experience of applying clinical reasoning skills across a range and varied patient case mix and competent across a range of skills (Desirable)
  • ENB 998 and/or mentorship course and/or D32/33/A1 (Desirable)
  • Previous experience within a hospital setting required

Duties of this role include:    

  • To provide quality planned care for patients during their peri operative phase of care
  • To support and assist in the management and organisation of care provision within the Operating Department
  • Assist in the delivery of patient care
  • Contribute to quality improvement
  • Develop and enhance the skills and knowledge of others and self
