  • Are you a registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse whose registration is lapsed, but want to return to practice?

  • Can you use your skills and experience to help us deliver mental health and learning disability services that change and improve lives?

  • Have you ever wanted to experience what it’s like to live and work in Devon, one of the UK’s most beautiful counties?

We are searching for experienced mental health and learning disability nursing staff who would like to return to work in the NHS.

If you are a registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse whose registration has lapsed, our Return to Practice Nursing Programme can provide the training you need to start working as a nurse again. We are searching for nurses to work across the Devon area, and will attempt to find you a post that’s convenient to you.

Alongside the chance to build a career in one of the UK’s most progressive trusts, we will subsidise your training and offer you significant financial incentives to encourage you back to work - including a £2,500 bonus (on accepting employment).

Our Return to Practice Nursing Programme runs once a year and takes approximately six months to complete. The programme involves a mixture of practical work and classroom study.

If successful with your application you will begin to work with us immediately, under the supervision of a registered nurse and you will be enrolled into the soonest available course.

Classroom study is delivered at Plymouth University. We will give you time off to attend all study days. You are also required to complete assessed practice hours and this will vary depending on the number of years you have been out of practice.

On successful completion of the Return to Practice Nursing Programme your post will automatically be converted to a Band 5 Staff Nurse role and you will receive your bonus.

We welcome applications from anyone with a history in mental health and learning disability nursing. Join us and you will become part of one of the country’s most exciting and innovative organisations that is passionate about making a difference to the lives of people using its services and their families.

About you

To be eligible for the programme you will need to provide evidence that you have been on the NMC register and that your registration has lapsed. The quickest way to obtain this information is to register with the NMC Online service and print a copy of your lapsed registration status to bring to your interview.

There is a practice based continuous assessment where a record of your progress is made in a document called the Ongoing Achievement Record (OAR). This is structured to meet the NMC outcomes for entry onto the register. In addition, you are required to pass a 2,000-word assignment at degree level which is based on reflective practice, a professional portfolio of evidence and a numeracy assessment.

You will operate as either a Band 3 nurse until completion of your training. You will need to complete a set number of service hours of between 100 – 400 hours – depending on the number of years you have been out of practice.

You will be supported by a practice supervisor, who will work with you on a regular basis, and a practice assessor who will sign you off as competent at the end of the Return to Practice Nursing Programme

We advertise for return to practice nurses throughout the year. Search for return to practice posts at Devon Partnership NHS Trust

Please specify any preference for location and specialism within your application form in the supporting statement so this can be considered when matching you to available posts.
