Job Details
Paediatric Staff Nurse
Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services from Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital—and a number of community-based services across London, such as award-winning sexual health and HIV clinics.
The Trust has over 6,000 staff proudly serving a million people locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. We treat a patient every 40 seconds, performing 34,000 operations and carrying out 391,000 scans, x-rays and procedures each year. As the second largest maternity provider in the country we help deliver a baby almost every hour of the day. We are one of the best performing trusts in London for A&E waiting times, and our mortality rates are some of the best in the country.
Our Trust has been rated by the Care Quality Commission as ‘Good’ in all five of the main domains of safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led, giving an us overall rating of ‘Good’. We are one of the first trusts to receive ‘Good’ across the board under the new CQC inspection framework. Both hospitals within our Trust—Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital—were rated as ‘Good’ overall.
Our Trust was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating for ‘use of resources’ by an NHS Improvement inspection which was completed during the same period as the CQC assessment.
Band 5 Paediatric Staff Nurse - Jupiter ward - Adolescents
Jupiter ward is a 12 bedded adolescent ward caring for young people aged between 11 years and 18 years. It is one of a small number of dedicated adolescent wards in the UK.
We care for a wide range of patients with specialties including respiratory, oncology, orthopaedic, plastics, neurology, gastroenterology, surgical and child and adolescent mental health. Our admissions come via a number of sources, including our Outpatients department, Paediatric Emergency Department, referrals from other hospitals, or step down patients from our High dependency unit.
We work very closely with other specialist centres such as Great Ormond Street. We have a number of patients who are under joint care with Royal Brompton for Respiratory and Cardiac conditions and may have under gone cardiac surgery and require further support from our services. Jupiter ward is a specialist Paediatric Shared care Unit for Oncology (POSCU). We provide open access to a number of patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer working closely with primary care centres such as Great Ormond Street and University college Hospital London.
We also work closely with CNWL who are our local support network for Child and Adolescent Mental Health. We have 2 dedicated cubicles to mental health and work closely with our own dedicated in house team and 24/7 out of hours service. We have recently started a close relationship with the eating disorders team and will be working closely with the new Child and Adolescent Mental Health tier 4 unit opening nearby at the end of the year.
