With 57 beds across three floors, we offer a specialised service, bespoke to our patient’s needs. Our six-bed critical care unit provides dedicated specialised care to seriously ill patients with a range of surgical or medical conditions. 

Job Description

Working as an Outreach Nurse within the critical care you will responds to requests from clinical staff in ward areas for urgent/emergency review of patients at risk of clinical deterioration and provides highly specialised advice and direct support to nursing and medical staff in relation to acute illness management, Utilise all resources effectively in delivering critical care outreach services to patients. And to act as a self-directed practitioner who directs, delivers and evaluates patient care founded on nursing and medical practice models.

This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week Monday to Sunday long days.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Effectively manage and control resources in line with budgetary requirements
  • Design and manage systems that ensure patients at risk of deterioration receive an effective response
  • Plan and manage own workload
  • Maintain and continuously improvement the provision of critical care outreach, acute pain and resuscitation services using audit, learning from incidents, introduction of national or cooperate initiatives, feedback and training
  • To work collaboratively on educational strategies which support the outreach pain resuscitation services
  • Keep abreast of all developments in professional nursing with regard to new healthcare standards and changes in practice. Maintaining the dissemination of this knowledge to appropriate members of the multi-disciplinary team
  • Ensure own competency in using appropriate equipment
  • Be aware of and adhere to appropriate national guidelines
  • Build relationships with key stakeholders including surgeons and anaesthetists

Skills & Experience

  • Registered General Nurse
  • Post graduate education within the critical care speciality
  • Minimum of six years Critical Care experience with at least 2 years in a role with shift leadership responsibilities
  • Previous involvement in supporting nurse education
  • Previous involvement in recruitment and retention planning
  • ALS provider or willingness to undertake the course upon successful appointment
  • Advanced critical care nursing skills
  • Ability to manage staff effectively
  • Ability to recognise clinical and managerial problems taking appropriate action
  • Knowledge of dealing sensitively with complaints
  • Appreciation of the cultural needs of both patients and staff
  • Ability to manage resources efficiently within budgetary constraints and for a constantly changing workload
  • Skill in prioritising workload and delegating as appropriate
