Job Details

Are you looking for a change in your nursing career?

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment? Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role with career developments? Then look no further… Situated in Shaftesbury in Dorset, HMP Guys Marsh is a category C training resettlement prison, taking adult males aged 21 and over and an operational capacity of 570+. Care UK recently took over the Healthcare services at HMP Guys Marsh; we are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care. To ensure the continued quality of care, we're looking for a Senior Substance Misuse Nurse (NMP) to join the team.

Key Responsibilities

As part of the prison integrated health care service the majority of your time will be spent in the Integrated Substance Misuse Service where you will work collaboratively with the ISMS psychosocial recovery workers to support service users and ensure that positive rehabilitation outcomes are achieved. As part of the ISMS team you will develop a strong clinical pathway for the service and service users. Excellent people skills, negotiation, networking and interpersonal skills are essential for this position. We recognise training and development is key, therefore we have an onsite training centre to facilitate for your needs. If you are new to offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this role.

Skills & Experience

A Mental Health or Adult Nurse with valid NMC registration with expertise within the substance misuse field. You will also be a Non-medical prescribing (NMP) and RCGP1 certified. It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations. Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.

Informal visits are welcome by appointment - please contact: Cate Jameson (Head of Healthcare) on Cate.Jameson@careuk.com or Jen Davey (Recruiter) on jen.davey@careuk.com. This full-time role will be working 37.5 hours per week. The salary for this role is up to £40,400 per annum - dependent on experience with company benefits and schemes. Working shifts are 07:30 - 18:00 - 4 days per week + 1 weekend in 3. Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.
