Position: Nurse Manager

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

About the role:

As Nurse Manager you will oversee the day-to-day activity of the OP services across the campus within UME, providing nursing support services to the consultant clinicians practicing in the Centre and leading by personal example, maintaining a high profile for clinical governance across campus, working with colleagues to ensure best practice followed, and communicating lessons learnt.

Responsibilities:

- Coordinating and delivering all aspect of Clinical Governance within UME

- Provide effective management of staffing within centres

- Develop clinics / one stop services

- Working with Consultants to develop and manage the consulting room OP service

- Work unsupervised as required but remain part of the clinical and non-clinical team to ensure maintenance of an effective and efficient service to the patient, consultant users and external agencies through professional leadership and maintaining high standards of clinical care as identified within policies and procedures

- Combine managerial effectiveness and expert clinical competency to ensure the highest standards of quality, service, care and safety are met and maintained

- Assist the unit team both clinical and non-clinical in updating, maintaining and enforcing the procedures and policies

- Ensure relevant audits are completed on schedule with associated reports and action plans

- Ensure matters of concern are highlighted to the Registered Manager as they occur

- Take responsibility for Audit completion within areas of clinical practice as per the annual audit plan and as designate by the Registered Manager providing outcome reports and action plans to address issues arising

- Take a lead responsibility for resuscitation issues including policy implementation / equipment management / audit

- Take a lead responsibility for the management / ordering and policy compliance for all matters associated with medications and associated substances

- Assess patients’ needs and develop programmes of care, maintaining a high standard of care at all times

- Assist with various specialised procedures, as directed by Consultants on site and in accordance with agreed protocols

- Provide a suitable environment for the physical and psychological well-being of patients and their relatives

- Maintain up to date practice in line with changes and national developments in nursing to fully meet the needs of patients

- Maintain written protocols for distribution regarding preparation and post-procedure care of patients for clinical interventional procedures where necessary

- Participate in the Quality Assurance Programs such as Health and Safety, COSHH, Risk Assessment, Clinical and Department Audit

- Be responsible to the Registered Manager for management and control of relevant budgetary matters and ensure revenue capture in relation to new and existing services

- Ensure continual efforts are made to make a positive financial contribution to the company.

About you:

- Registered General Nurse

- Minimum of 5 years post registration experience. Minimum of 3 years management experience within an Out Patient environment

- Understanding and experience of delivering Clinical Governance reports and associated actions

- Understanding and experience of CQC standards for care and current inspection framework

- Clinically competent; Ability to work unsupervised; Ability to work under pressure in a busy environment

- Follow corporate policies and procedures

- Medical Consultant Relationship Management

- Ability to maintain safe practices including medicines management

- Auditing clinical practice

- Well-developed computer skills

- Incident management and investigation and complaints management experience

Desirable:

- Cardiology / Neurology Nursing

- Experience of private sector nursing

- Teaching and assessing ENB 998 or equivalent

- Current certificate in Venepuncture

- Current immediate life support certificate
