Break in to prison healthcare!

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment?

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role with career development?

Then look no further…

Situated in Exeter, HMP YOI Exeter is an adult/young offenders institution accepting males ages 18 and over; with an operational capacity of 550+. It accepts all adult and young offenders committed to prison by the courts from Cornwall, Devon, Dorset & West Somerset. Care UK will start delivering NHS healthcare services at HMP YOI Exeter on 1st April 2017.

Care UK is the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

We are working with the current healthcare provider at HMP YOI Exeter towards a seamless transition to us and in April, the existing well established team will transfer across to us. To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP YOI Exeter, we’re looking for Senior Primary Care Nurses to support us and the existing team in this new venture.

What we have to offer:

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we have training centres to facilitate for your needs. You will gain insight and training in Mental health and Substance Misuse.

If you are new to nursing or offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role.

We also offer company benefits and schemes including 2-5% company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, staff well-being, access to bank hours, CPD, re-validation, cycle to work scheme.

About you:

To be considered for this role you will be a Level 1 RGN/RN (adult) and hold a current NMC registration and have evidence of continued professional development post registration.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

Further job information:

The full-time role will be working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis across 7 days. The salary for this role is up to £35,000 per annum - dependent on experience.

Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

As a Senior Nurse you will work as part of the nursing team, utilising your clinical expertise, decision making and problem solving skills to provide skilled and evidence based nursing care for patients in the prison. You will work within your scope of practice, in accordance with Care UK and prison service policies and procedures in line with the NMC Code of professional conduct, performance and ethics for nurses and midwives.
As the Senior Nurse you're responsible for the continuing management of patients and acute and long term medical conditions, including assessment of care needs, the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care, health promotion actively and care of vulnerable offenders.
