Job Description

The role of the Oncology Senior Staff Nurse at The Wellington Hospital is to care for Oncology patients from diagnosis, collaborative treatment planning, chronic pain control, to integration into the community and end of life care.

This is a full time (37.5 hours per week), permanent post. Shifts include; long days and nights. Rotation and flexibility required. The projected salary range is £35,673 - £40,401 per annum + 9% enhancements and a comprehensive benefits package on top.


Duties & Responsibilities

* Reporting to the Sister/Nurse in Charge you will treat all patients in their private room environment by offering individualised and one-on-one patient care and comfort to them and their relatives.

* Assess, plan, deliver , evaluate and implement the highest of nursing standards covering specialisms; Cancer Care, Breast Care, Haematology, Lymphomas, Liver and HPB, Gynaecological, Head Neck, Skin, Urological cancer and Genetic testing.

* Work in a highly experienced and specialist multicultural and multidispinary team, alongside leading specialist nurses and world class consultants.

* Administer Chemotherapy, conduct patient teaching, managing their illness and accurately document all patient records onto the computerised systems.

* Work well within a team, supervising and directing junior staff and deputising for Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence, always ensuring that patient care is at a consistently high level.

* Take part in ward audits and research to continuous improve and strive for excellence, for staff and patients.


Skills & Experience

  • Registered RN with Acute Oncology Ward based experience
  • Chemo trained.
  • Exceptional communication and compassionate nursing skills with the ability to demonstrate good clinical practice at all times.
  • Motivated and forward thinking individual with excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
