The Wellington South Critical Care Unit cares for Neurological and general patients and working closely alongside our Acute Admissions Unit (AAU).

A team of doctors who specialise in intensive care lead the Unit and are supported by our specialist Critical Care Nurses, providing constant one-to-one care for all our patients. The Units are capable of caring for patients with the most complex health needs including those who have had major general, neuro or cardiac surgery, and who require the highest level of organ support.


Job Description

We have an excellent opportunity for a Senior Staff Nurse to join our ICU unit in the South building at The Wellington Hospital in St Johns Wood, London. This ward has 9 ICU beds (expanding by a further 5 beds) and 7 HDU beds. As a Senior Staff Nurse you will assess, plan, deliver and evaluate high standards of critical care nursing.

This is a full time permanent post: 37.5 hours per week

Shifts include: 8:00am-20:30 and 20:00pm-8:30 (rotation and flexibility required)

The projected salary range is £35,673 - £40,401 per annum + 9% shift enhancements and a comprehensive benefits package on top. Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work well within a team, supervising and directing junior staff and deputising for Sister/Charge Nurse in their absence, always ensuring that patient care is at a consistently high level.
  • To provide a high standard of holistic centred care.
  • To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team. Act as a clinical role, driving high standards of care and assisting with coaching and development of the team.
  • Initiate improvements and developments in clinical issues and delivery of care
  • Contributing to the ongoing research based care and other practice development initiatives

Skills & Experience

  • Registered General Nurse with NMC pin.
  • Neuro, or General ICU/HDU specific skills and experience.
  • Motivated and forward thinking individual with excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with good time management and prioritisation skills.
  • Experience in advanced respiratory ventilation and renal care would be advantageous.

They will possess a passion for delivering customer service and a desire to provide an exceptional patient experience. They will display a personable, yet professional manner at all times.

Furthermore, you will work alongside the Clinical Lead to coordinate and development of the Occupational Therapy Service and act as an expert clinical resource for the occupational therapy department and wider multidisciplinary team to optimise clinical care available
