Job Description

Although smaller than other CCU units, our service will provide you with the opportunity to really focus on providing a high level of 1 to 1 quality care to our patients and making a difference to their health and wellbeing, whilst also allowing you to focus on other aspects of the unit, where you can drive change and improve the service we offer our patients.

As the Matron of our Critical Care Unit and outreach service you will provide clinical leadership which inspires, motivates and empowers nurses, whilst also being responsible for effectively managing the financial resources, ensuring the optimal deployment of the workforce to ensure high-quality patient care is delivered and monitored. Contributing to both corporate and hospital initiatives and plans, particularly in respect of changes in patient care delivery and quality, you will work alongside senior managers in the planning and implementation of developments relating to nursing throughout the hospital, specifically focusing on developing and implementing the 'Critical care without Walls' strategy.

This is a full time role working 37.5hrs per week

The attractive and competitive salary for this role is £49,417 - £55,594 and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Operational Management - Ensure smooth day to day operation of departments and achievement of service targets, including daily bed management, rota's and workforce planning
  • People Management - Provide effective line management to all staff within the service and act as a role model for nurses, manage HR issues at a local level and oversee all training and development of staff
  • Service management - Recognise clinical issues/problems and take early action as appropriate, be responsible for clinical excellence within the service and
  • Service development - identify, develop and implement positive changes to develop the service and ensure that complaints and incidents are investigated in a timely manner and resolved, lessons learnt, fed back to staff, and remedial action implemented.
  • Strategic development - Be aware of hospital financial position and target objectives, provide effective input into operational and strategic issues and develop and implement a 'Critical Care Without Walls' strategy.

Skills & Experience

For this role, you will be a registered nurse with substantial experience and post grad course within critical care. You will have previous experience of management and developing of a service.
