London Bridge Hospital is expanding in 2017 into the top four floors of the new Guy's Cancer Centre. With 38.2 million pound investment and 60,000 square feet this purpose built facility will allow London Bridge Hospital to house its cancer services in one roof. Consultants from London's top teaching hospitals will offer full surgical provision in urology, gynaecology, breast, ENT, maxillofacial and head and neck, as well as reconstructive surgery for these specialties. The hospital will partner with Leaders in Oncology (LOC) across chemotherapy, outpatient oncology and haematology.

The new site will encompass inpatient and daycase beds, operating theatres including the first integrated robotics theatre in the UK, housing a Da Vinci Robot. There will also be a chemotherapy unit, outpatient consulting, Level 3 Critical Care and Imaging including X-Ray, MRI and Ultrasound.

The London Bridge Hospital campus in South East London encompasses the recently opened outpatients and diagnostic centre in The Shard, the large world-class hospital based at the Tooley Street site, and a further five outpatient and diagnostic centres across the City, Canary Wharf and Kent. Patients benefit from multidisciplinary streamlined care, investment in leading-edge technology and London teaching hospital consultants.

Job Description

As the Clinical Nurse Specialist you will provide clinical nutritional expertise to the abdominal ward team, educating both patients and their families/carers and all clinical staff within LBH. You will work to provide advanced care to patients receiving nutritional support and be available to support nurses caring for enteral or parentally feed patients, whilst also leading educational sessions and reviewing current feeding policies alongside other members of the team (i.e. dietitian, pharmacist and gastroenterologist). The nutrition nurse will be instrumental in training nurses on new, and evidence based procedures linked to enteral (i.e. CORTRAK) or parenteral feeding.

This is a part time role working 37.5hrs per week

The attractive and competitive salary for this role is £39,174 - £45,419 (to be pro-rated) and will be dependent upon skills and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop a Nurse Led Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition Service to LBH, with additional support to other HCA International Facilities as required.
  • Provide expert advice to patients requiring enteral or parenteral feeding. This will include daily rounds on patients.
  • Advise nurses' on the management of long term enteral feeding i.e. percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) feeding, and support patients who may me experiencing complications i.e. buried bumper syndrome.
  • Provide education, protocols, competencies on relevant topics such as:
  • Provide specialist and practical advice for patients and families leading up to their discharges on enteral feeding.
  • Lead audits to ensure that standards set within policies are maintained.
  • Lead on the evaluation and purchasing of clinical equipment ensuring it is fit for purpose and finically viable.

Skills & Experience

  • Achieved or working towards a recognised Nutrition related post graduate qualification (Essential).
  • Experience as CNS EN/PN or Nutrition Link Nurse
  • Experience with Parenteral / Enteral feeding Post grad qualification in renal
  • Experience in clinical management
  • Able to analyse data and create reports
  • Teaching and Assessing and/or Mentorship qualification

About The Individual

The successful candidate will work on their own initiative (self-starter), and have an ability to make decisions, organise and prioritise work. They will have excellent interpersonal skills with patients and professionals. They will also demonstrate an ability to manage conflict situations, set and monitor standards, work under pressure, able to show tact and to manage boundaries. The successful candidate will also have good presentation skills, and will be capable of interpreting Management Information.
