We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Theatre Practitioner (Robotic Surgery) to join our team at The Wellington Hospital in St Johns Wood, London. Our Theatres service includes 12 Theatre suits and 3 Cardiac Cath Labs. Our specialist surgical teams use the very latest surgical technology including the most advanced Da Vinci Robot and state of the art diagnostic imaging equipment. The Wellington Hospital is just one of four hospitals in the UK that have access to this super robot.

Job Description

The Lead Theatre Practitioner will be responsible for the provision of day to day management/co-ordination of Robotic Surgery in Theatre to support the Unit Co-ordinator in the management of Quality and Governance in relation to robotic surgery within financial constraints.

  • This position is full time, permanent working 37.5 hours per week (over a 5 day week, including evenings and weekends) . On call commitment for general surgery (minimum 2 nights per week).
  • The projected salary range is £44,925 - £50,541 per annum plus a 4% shift enhancement and a comprehensive benefits package on top.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Supervises the Theatre team to meet department requirements and to liaise with Theatre Co-ordinator to ensure good use of resources.

* Link person to communicate with Robotic Consultant users.

* To provide a professional service and positive team leadership, promoting and safeguarding the well-being and interests of all patients and operating theatre personnel.

* Mentoring and training of junior staff to ensure effective safe provision of service as well as deputising for Theatre Co-Ordinator in his/her absence.

* Ensures that senior practitioners can evaluate care outcomes and support team to a fast changing environment.

* Ensures that team implements and evaluates patient care around infection control measures.


Skills & Experience

* Registered O.D.P. (NVQ III/Dip. HE) / Registered Nurse Level 1.

* Demonstrable theatre experience in Robotic Surgery, with expertise in a speciality i.e. cardiac, vascular, HPB, urology or neurosurgery.

* Surgical Assistant Qualification preferred but not essential.

* Knowledge of relevant hospital policies and procedures.

* Health and Safety training as well as Moving and Handling training.

* Good verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

* Ability to prioritise skill mix to meet department needs.

* Excellent team leadership skills who can recognise and deal with conflict.
