SCHOOL NURSE - CROWTHORNE BERKS

Our client, a prestigious and forward thinking co-educational boarding school is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join their substantial Healthcare Team as a Health Centre Nursing Sister.

The post holder will be required to deliver high quality nursing care to pupils and staff and display a keen interest in adolescent health and wellbeing. The ability to work as part of a team, as well as autonomously is essential, as are excellent communication skills.

Applications are welcome from experienced Registered General Nurses. In addition, experience in Paediatric Nursing, A &E, Practice Nursing or School Nursing is considered desirable.
Their busy Health Centre is open 24/7, for 33 weeks of the year. The duties offered are on a fixed rota basis, with some additional nursing duties as required.
The hours presently available include:
Alternate Friday nights - 16 per year
Alternate Saturday days - 14 per year
A bedroom is available within the Health Centre for the nurse to both sleep and to be available to see pupils who are unwell at night.

Main Tasks and responsibilities

General care of any persons seeking medical advice or help
* To be continually aware of pupils in College with underlying medical conditions and to act accordingly
* To provide first aid and emergency care as necessary for any pupil or adult on site
* To provide confidential counselling and health advice
* Maintaining a high standard of record keeping
* To care for any pupil and when indicated, refer pupil to GP or A&E and be responsible for the organisation of continued care of that pupil until the parent or guardian takes over
* Making appointments and any necessary arrangements needed for them, on behalf of pupils
* Liaising with Housemasters/mistresses re: any concerns with pupils and keeping them informed of progress of a pupil being cared for in The Health Centre
* General household duties to keep the Health centre clean and tidy and appropriately stocked
* Knowing who the appointed Child Protection Officer is and contact details
* To read regularly and follow health centre policies and guidelines
* To follow correct procedures for the control of infectious diseases
* To follow correct procedures for the safe storage/disposal of drugs and clinical waste
* To maintain best practice and to read regularly and follow health centre policy guidelines on the administration of medicines. This will include using policies for some medication and all vaccinations
* To enable pupils to obtain prescriptions and repeat prescriptions within carefully documented and safe systems of custody
* To work with the Sister-in-Charge to maintain high level patient care and in modelling best practice at all times
* Any other duties which may be required from time to time and as agreed
* To keep professionally aware of changes and developments that take place with the nursing profession that directly affects practice within the College Health centre. To be willing to share the information with the team
* To maintain commitment to own professional development which in turn will also contribute to the team. Opportunities for training and development will be offered as they arise but the job holder may seek their own training days or courses and ask for support to attend. Additionally they may be paid for training costs and time.
* To attend mandatory training when required for which the job holder will be paid
* To be willing to cover extra hours/shifts when required including weekends, nights and on-call
* Be the point of contact for health advice and health education for one or more of the houses. It is expected that the job holder will visit their allocated house/s at least termly
* In addition to your main role you will have additional responsibility, for example; travel health, immunisations, allergy management, asthma, health education, sexual health etc.
