A vacancy has arisen for a School Nurse to be responsible for the provision of the healthcare needs, pastoral care of the pupils and staff. This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic experienced and flexible individual to join their dedicated and friendly professional team. A competitive salary is on offer commensurate with this important term-time only role (10 months per academic year).


Summary of duties:
Administration
· Maintenance of health records in accordance with the Data Protection Act
· Recording and maintenance of the Accident Report Database
· Lead or assist all staff/faculty first-aid and CPR classes - assisting divisions with identifying potential participants and updating the training database
· Stock control
· Update and develop school health policies/guidelines in all appropriate health and wellbeing areas
· Prepare and maintain school health care plans for students with chronic medical conditions and ensure that appropriate school staff are made aware of the support and emergency treatment that students with medical/ chronic conditions require

Communication
· Inform and liaise with the relevant school administrator regarding significant medical issues
· While maintaining confidentiality, keep the relevant school administrators/personnel appraised of illnesses or injuries relating to the students under their care
· Assist in information seminars for parents on the UK health system
· Coordinate with outside agencies in vaccination and/or other public health programs
· Inform and advise parents when their child sustains a significant injury or becomes ill
· Liaise with nursing/health/counseling colleague(s) and inform them of any relevant patient or school health matter
· Inform relevant school personnel and parents of any outbreaks of illness or infection and advise on prevention and management
· Liaise regularly with student support team members and as needed attend and contribute to school counselling team meetings and SST meetings


· Liaise with outside agencies, for example, Public Health England, local NHS, Health and Safety Executive, including responsibility for informing the authorities of outbreaks of notifiable diseases
· Attending bi-weekly departmental meetings and keep the Director of Operations and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction apprised of any relevant child health and wellbeing issues
· Work with the relevant faculty and staff to prepare for student residential trips K through 12, ensuring that medical information is shared appropriately and trip leaders are aware of the medical requirements for the students in their care.

Medical
· Assessment and treatment of illness and injuries
· Provision of informal emotional/well-being support to students, referring and liaising with student advisors and school counsellors as required
· Referral of patients for further treatment or investigation as necessary
· Administration of routine and acute medication (management and administration of Controlled Drugs in accordance with the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 1985)
· Monitoring injuries and reporting accidents, highlighting potential risk areas within the school
· Clinical waste management
· Restocking and checking of first aid kits for day and residential trips
· Co-ordination and management of an annual staff flu clinic
· Ensuring patient confidentiality - always adhering to all required child protection regulations/guidelines

Education
· Assisting nursing colleagues and/or faculty with, among other things:
o Responding to outbreaks of disease in the community by informing parents/faculty/staff of symptoms and advising on management
o Classroom teaching on request, related to health classes, first aid classes or in response to a health concern in the school community
o Providing health promotion material and guidance on using the NHS and private medicine in the UK
o Informing faculty and other staff on the correct use of asthma inhalers, epipens etc
o Providing first aid and CPR instruction
o Continuous professional development through use of the internet, journals and courses to meet NMC requirements

Essential qualifications/experience
· UK Registered Nurse with substantial full-time relevant post registration experience
· Experience and knowledge of educational environments, with clear understanding of the needs of children and young people


· A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people

Desirable qualifications/experience
· Relevant experience, including A&E, practice nursing, occupational health and paediatrics
· Evidence of recent professional development
· Experience practicing nursing in a school or other educational setting
· Knowledge and
understanding of international and/or independent school communities
