Job Description

To work as a skilled member of the nursing team, to provide a high standard of holistic family centred care to children, young adults and families. Ability to promote family centred care and establish good relationships with children and their families. To communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team.

This role is part time- 29 hours per week- a combination of early, lates and long days.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Checking of emergency equipment for paediatric resuscitation and replenishment of expired/used stock.
  • Preparing the rooms for the Paediatric Consultants, specific to their requirements for the day and be responsible for cleaning the rooms after use.
  • Liaising daily with the Consultants and identifying specific needs to enhance the service and assisting with the treatment of the child during the consultation.
  • Regular inspections of the environment including play areas to ensure a safe and secure environment at all times. Report faulty equipment and take out of use.
  • Ensure all equipment and toys used within the department are monitored and maintained to the standards set and adhere to MHRA guidance, including cleaning.
  • Stock taking and ensuring adequate levels of consumables available to continue for the day /week and month.
  • Observing strict hygiene standards, ensuring visitors also comply with good hygiene.
  • The writing of reports and updating records before completing a shift.
  • Responsible for providing educational, clinical, professional support.
  • Provide a platform for shared communication and problem solving and to be involved in the implementation of a child's treatment plan.
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality at all times where appropriate
  • Participate in assessment of and management of pain in paediatric patients.
  • Administer medication using age-appropriate guidelines
  • Awareness of safeguarding concerns and follow the safeguarding reporting line
  • Administrative duties as required, faxing reports, filing post etc.
  • Audit quality of care against standards set by regulatory bodies such as the CQC and NMC, reporting outcomes to the WDOC Clinical Governance Committee.


Skills & Experience

  • First level registration post registration experience, 1 of which will have been in relevant clinical specialty

  • Post basic qualification in clinical specialty relevant to practice area

  • Organisational skills with the ability to flexibly respond to the needs of the service and the hospital
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including communication (verbal, nonverbal and written), positive mental attitude and sensitivity
  • Professional manner at all times
