HOURS: 5 days/week

RESPONSIBLE TO: Allergy Consultant

ACCOUNTABLE TO : Allergy Consultant

SALARY: Competitive, dependent on experience

As an Allergy Nurse, you will be working alongside the Allergy Consultant and assisting with a wide range of duties.

The successful candidate will be committed to providing exceptional patient centered care. You will work well in a team, develop and maintain effective, professional relationships with consultants and office staff.

Strong time management, organisational skills and a professional approach to work are key. Advance knowledge in allergy treatment and management is required.
 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLINICAL

  • To work autonomously, managing a caseload of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
  • Demonstrate appropriate expert practice and highly specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations.
  • Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies. To interpret information and take appropriate action.
  • Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
  • Act as an advocate for patients within the clinic, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards.
  • Ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
  • Performing the following tests on a day to day basis:
  • Skin prick testing
  • Spirometry
  • eNO
  • Responsible for the correct administration of sub-lingual immunotherapy.
  • Respect and ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • To maintain accurate patient records and educate staff members in relation to the importance of documentation
  • Respects legislation in relation to child protection and mandatory reporting at all times.
     

ADMINISTRATIVE AND MANAGEMENT

  • Maintain accurate records of the clinical service and ensuring that confidentiality of information is adhered to.
  • Ensure that equipment (both disposable and non-disposable) is maintained and stock managed within the available financial resource.
  • Dealing with patients’ queries.
  • Recognise importance of resolving complaints in a timely manner and effectively at local level and escalate as appropriate.
  • Ensuring compliance by following up with the patient and ensuring all medication is picked up on a timely basis through the duration of their immunotherapy treatment.
  • Liaise closely with Consultants and Office Manager on a regular basis as required.
  • Organise own work and manage own caseload and practice, identifying and maintaining supportive networks for self and other staff members.
  • Develop policies, protocols and clinical guidelines in support of the specialist service.
  • Implement new initiatives where possible to run a cost effective, timely service
  • Adhere to the clinic’s and hospital’s policies and procedures.
     

EDUCATION AND RESEARCH

  • Act as a resource of specialised knowledge and clinical expertise to ensure care delivered to the patient and the family is appropriate, optimum, and evidence based.
  • Maintain up-to-date clinical skills and knowledge for delivering care the patients.
  • Teach, advise and coach patients, families and carers with regard to the condition and treatment options i.e. EpiPen training, asthma and eczema management, inhaler techniques.
     

EQUIPMENT AND MACHINERY

  • Post holder is expected to have knowledge and ability to use all equipment used in the area.
     

DECISIONS AND JUDGEMENTS

  • Assess any changes to patient condition and ensure appropriate action is taken.
  • Anticipate workload, taking into consideration elective and unplanned emergencies, to ensure smooth running of the Clinic.
     

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  • NMC Registered Nurse with a minimum of 4 years experience.
  • Level or relevant experience demonstrating the appropriate competencies and skills for the job.
  • Educated to degree level (or working towards)
  • Evidence of further education including post-graduate certification/diploma/Continuous Professional
  • Evidence of excellent team working skills with ability to work using own initiative.
  • Effective listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management skills/ability to prioritise workload.
  • Experience of Mentorship
  • IT skills
     

FLEXIBLE WORKING

Standard working days are: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, Sunday.

Clinic days are a subject to change and are dependent on consultants’ availability.
Clinic’s schedule is prepared 2-3 months in advance and you will be notified of all changes with prior notice.
