Job Details

An opportunity has arisen for an exciting change in direction, as part of a successful and driven team!

Are you an outgoing, dynamic nurse? If so, have you ever considered a nursing career in the prison environment?

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role with career development opportunities?

Then look no further...

About the job:

Nursing in prison is never dull or predictable. On any given day the skills you use may be similar to those you need working in an acute emergency setting, general practice or health promotion, alternatively you may be supporting people to manage their mental health or substance misuse. It’s this variety that

keeps things fresh and stimulating. Each shift bring new challenges and new experiences, and we will support and train you, to help you deliver the very best care possible.
This exciting role offers experiences and opportunities like no other, and requires a diverse mix of nursing skills. One minute you could be delivering a nurse led clinic and the next you could be attending an emergency response.
You can expect to be involved in a range of nursing duties, including triage, suturing, wound care and chronic disease management to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant

examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when indicated.

HMP Featherstone is a category C adult resettlement prison and holds 703 prisoners from age 21+. We are a well-established team, offering a varied and exciting opportunity to work and develop clinical skills in a primary care service for male prisoners aged 21 years and upwards. Services offered include

phlebotomy, nurse triage, chronic disease management, substance misuse interventions and health promotion. We also provide an emergency response service, and working hours are between 07:45 and 18:30, 7 days a week. There is a requirement to work one weekend out of every three.

About us:

Care UK are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to over 22,000 offenders in over 35 prisons across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

You will need to be a Registered Nurse (Adult) with a passion for developing your skills in an ever changing environment. You will need a flexible approach, and must be able to work within a team that encourages new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.
If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this is the role for you!
