Break in to prison healthcare!

Are you looking for a change in your nursing career?

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment?

Are you looking for a challenging and rewarding role with career developments?

Then look no further…

Care UK is the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

These roles are available at our HMP Oakwood site, which is an Adult Category C training prison with a diverse range of nursing needs. Oakwood currently holds a maximum of 1605 prisoners, with a forthcoming rise of 501 over the next 6 months. This brings a great opportunity to embrace change and embed culture. The role will be an experience like no other requiring a diverse and mixed nursing skills and background. One minute you could be delivering a chronic disease clinic and the next you are attending an emergency response.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Oakwood, we’re looking for Staff Nurses to come and join our team.

So what do we have to offer?

We have high class, state of the art facilities within our healthcare setting; based in a modern prison. We recognise training and development is key, therefore we have an onsite training centre to facilitate for your needs. You will gain insight and training in Mental health and Substance Misuse.

If you are new to offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this role.

About the role:

As a Staff Nurse within primary care, you can expect to be involved in everything from clinical triage to the evaluation and development of patient care and standards. You’ll carry out – and potentially develop – nurse-led clinics, reviewing patient histories, undertaking relevant examinations and tests, organising any necessary treatment and referring patients to other healthcare professionals when you need to. Across everything you do, you’ll maintain accurate records and provide the kind of helpful, empathetic support that will make every patient feel at ease.

Further job information:

We are looking for both part time and full time employees, with newly qualified applications considered. Informal visits are welcome by appointment - please contact: Jeff Parker or Heidi Page on 01902 799 851 to arrange these.

The full-time role will be working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis across 7 days. The salary for this role is £24,000 - £29,000 per annum (pro-rata for part time) dependent on experience with company benefits and schemes.

Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

As an RGN 1 with valid NMC registration, you’ll bring a good knowledge of clinical governance and a real passion for taking your skills even further.

It goes without saying that you’ll have a solid understanding of health and safety, along with exemplary record keeping skills. Self-motivated and able to work autonomously, you’ll show plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations.

Beyond that, you should have a flexible approach and the ability to achieve changing priorities by managing your own time.
