Pelham Woods is a 21 bed inpatient rehabilitation service which serves the needs of women who have complex mental health problems and a history of challenging behaviour.

Pelham Woods is set in picturesque grounds overlooking the Surrey Hills and has extensive facilities including onsite Gym, Purpose Built Bake off Kitchen as well as Occupational and Educational Facilities.

The role:

As a Ward Manager at Pelham Woods you will be working within a team that includes a range of professionals making an effective contribution to providing high quality care to our patients.

Our Ward Manager role involves:
  • Shift/resource management in capacity of Senior Nurse on call
  • Effective strategic resource management.
  • Leadership decisions within the context of Ward Manager
  • Performance management of junior staff
  • Ensure adherence to policies and procedures.
  • Personal development needs
  • Discipline and grievance issues
  • Serious incident reviews and implementation of recommendations.
  • Ward Budget Management
  • Advisory role to nursing staff
  • Support the implementation of local Clinical Governance Strategy
  • Clear application of clinical experience
  • Satisfactory completion of objectives as agreed at appraisal and monthly supervision.
  • Satisfactory fulfilment of core competencies.
  • Demonstrates clear application of continuing professional development portfolio.
  • Clear application of hospital policies and procedures
  • Demonstrates positive contribution to senior nurses group.
  • Facilitates delivery of practice and support supervision.
  • Actively contributes to the Nursing Service Agreement, departmental Risk Matrix and action plan, monitoring their implementation
  • Satisfactory completion of designated annual mandatory training.
  • To participate and take on active lead in organisational clinical and nursing audit programmes.
  • Support of senior management team at local level.
  • Contributes to departmental and unit business objectives.
  • Effectively manage positive change in the nursing department.
  • Satisfactory attendance record
  • Provide strong and robust leadership in the clinical environment using the core skills of facilitation, negotiation, conflict resolution, teaching and delegation.
  • Develop a coaching culture within the clinical environment.
  • Demonstrate and model professional behaviors at all times.
  • Support the implementation of clinical and corporate governance for the management of patient information.
  • Participate in service specific strategy and development.
  • Accept 24 hour responsibility for the hospital wards on a rotational basis within the framework of the CNM on call structure.
  • Manage the achievements and maintenance of the Care Standards Act.
  • Provide managerial leadership through coordinating the production of philosophies of care and local procedures. These are subject to annual review.
  • Monitor the performance and conduct of staff and to take corrective action when necessary. This will include, where appropriate, involvement in the disciplinary process.
To be successful as a Ward Manager, you will need:
  • RMN/RMNH/RNLD qualification

  • Experience within a Secure setting within a leadership/management capacity.
