Looking for a change in your nursing career?

Have you ever thought about working within the prison environment?

Then look no further…

Care UK has recently been awarded the healthcare contract at HMP Guys Marsh; we are the Health in Justice Market leader, providing healthcare services to offenders across the country. Our model of care is our Wellbeing Approach – an integrated, comprehensive approach in recognition of the fact prisoners are a socially-excluded group with healthcare needs which are complex and often associated with poor outcomes. It adopts the premise no single health/wellbeing factor can be taken in isolation of other motivational issues which might impact a person’s care.

To ensure the continued quality of care at HMP Guys Marsh, we’re looking for Mental Health Nurse’s to join our team.

About us:

We recognise training and development is key, therefore we have an onsite training centre to facilitate for your needs. You will gain insight and training in Primary Care and Substance Misuse.

If you are new to nursing or offender health, we will create a suitable induction package to ensure you are equipped for this exciting role.

We also offer company benefits and schemes including 2-5% company contributory pension scheme, 25 days annual leave plus 8 public bank holidays, staff well-being, access to bank hours, CPD, re-validation, cycle to work scheme.

Job requirements:

You will be a qualified Registered Nurse (Mental Health) with a real passion for developing your clinical skills in an environment that is ever changing. You’ll have a flexible approach working within a team that encourage new ideas and opinions on how to improve the service.

You should possess a good working knowledge of conducting risk assessments and care planning as well as someone who is creative and forward thinking to work through the issues that may arise in this challenging but exciting environment. Knowledge in therapeutic interventions such as CBT or Steps to Wellbeing are desirable but transferable clinical skills will be considered with appropriate training provided.

If you are self-motivated and able to work autonomously as well as showing plenty of initiative when it comes to handling a wide range of situations, then this could be the right role for you!

Further job information:

The full-time role will be working 37.5 hours per week on a rota basis across 7 days. The salary for this role is up to £30,000 per annum - dependent on experience. Part-time roles are also considered.

Please note that this role is subject to Care UK Terms & Conditions and offers of employment are subject to satisfactory receipt of references, enhanced DBS check and prison vetting.

The Healthcare team at HMP Guys Marsh are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic mental health nurse to join our friendly team. This is an exciting time for the department and you will be fully integrated into the team. You will assist the Clinical Lead in developing and implementing Care UK’s Wellbeing Approach.

The role will involve assessing, signposting and care coordinating patients that are referred from a variety of sources including wing staff and probation, and will include patients that may present with complex mental health problems, psychosomatic disorders as well as a variety of psychological issues relating to physical disorders. You will be required to work within the healthcare team to provide a holistic care pathway, within the Care UK Wellbeing Approach.

As a Mental Health Nurse, you will be required to work within the wider multidisciplinary team within the prison establishment, including Safer Custody, Probation and Governors.

To be able to carry out this role we are looking for someone with previous experience of working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems as well as low level mental health problems.

Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences. But at the same time, you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible.
