London Bridge Hospital has expanded into the top four floors of the new Guy's Cancer Centre. Consultants from London's top teaching hospitals will offer full surgical provision in urology, gynaecology, breast, ENT, maxillofacial and head and neck, as well as reconstructive surgery for these specialties.

The London Bridge 24 bedded surgical unit is a vibrant, covering Colorectal/Gynae/Urology/Transplant/Hepatobiliary and step down HDU. Providing living related donation for liver and renal, we are also one of a few private hospitals in the UK to offer Urethroplasm and are proud to also be part of the ERAS society. Our nurses come from a varied background with experience generally within one or more of these areas, however with the support of the team, they are expected to cover all surgical conditions, offering variety within their roles and providing them the ability to learn new skills

Job Description

As a Senior Staff Nurse within the Surgical Ward, you will support the unit manager in delivering and implementing a high standard of nursing care and ensuring that the individual needs of all patients are responded to. Being in charge of shifts, you will supervise junior staff and deputising for the Senior Sisters and the Senior Nurse Manager when necessary. Involved in bed planning you will also oversee staffing level to ensure that the department can manage the needs of all patients.

37.5hrs per week - 13 days per month (9days and 4 nights)

The salary for this role is £35,673 - £40,401 + 9% shift enhancement and dependent upon experience.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage a patient caseload effectively
  • In charge of shifts
  • Dealing with patient queries and complaints
  • Overseeing staffing levels and planning of the department rota
  • Bed planning - Allocate patients appropriately, utilising the nursing skill mix to its full potential.
  • Ensure all incidents and complaints are reported in a timely manner and participate in the thorough investigation and response.
  • Provide mentorship to junior staff as required
  • Participate in consultant ward rounds and assist medical staff with clinical procedures.
  • All ad hoc nursing duties as required by senior staff, including the supervision of junior members of the team as directed

Skills & Experience

For this role, you will need to have substantial experience within a surgical ward and be skilled in phlebotomy, cannulation, management of TPN, stoma's or VAC dressings.
