Senior Health and Welfare Advisor - Central London
Full time, 42 weeks per year, permanent
£37,110 - £42,100 per annum pro rata depending on experience (including London Weighting)

Our client has an excellent opportunity for an experienced health professional to join the Student Affairs team as a Senior Health and Welfare Advisor. S/he will co-ordinate referrals to specialists in the provision of a comprehensive health support service for 1000 students, and will lead on health and wellbeing promotion to students and staff throughout the school.

To be considered for this role you must be a qualified registered nurse with a current registration with the NMC, and have extensive experience of dealing with mental and emotional health issues. You will provide a comprehensive health support service for the student body, providing triage for student medical problems and onward referral to a range of specialists. You should have excellent organizational skills, be a clear communicator and will be able to influence effectively others with a thorough awareness of health issues affecting performing arts students.

Main areas of responsibility:

1.To provide medical (nursing) advice and treatment (if required) in cases of accident and illness during regular working hours, referring as appropriate to hospital or GP or other medical professionals for subsequent medical treatment.
2.To follow up students after notification of accidents and illness (with Administrative departments).
3.To provide advice to students on matters of personal health care and sensible safety precautions.
4.To liaise with the School's Head of Counselling and counsellors where required.
5.To design and deliver health and wellbeing promotion programmes such as workshops, seminars and displays.
6.To manage screening procedures, including management of the profiling initiative, and to provide follow up advice and make necessary referrals to other medical /health agencies as appropriate.
7.To manage the procedure for applications to Sundial Court on medical and disability grounds.
8.To oversee the student health data and be responsible for maintaining health records.
9.To attend and contribute to related School committees and meetings such as Health and Safety, departmental staff meetings, Staff and Student Liaison meetings, Examination Boards (with Head).
10.To have a full understanding and a detailed knowledge of HE/FE Sector policies, the School's vision and strategy and internal policies and procedures in order to be able to give best practice advice in relation to students health and well-being.
11.To manage student cases as referred by the Head of Student Affairs, being the student's primary contact and ensuring joined up approach to the students welfare needs across the range of services and pastoral support within the academic departments.
12.To work with the Head to co-ordinate and manage Case Conferences for students with mitigating circumstances.
13.To work with the Head to further develop strategies, policies and programmes to promote student health with the academic and administrative staff
14.To be proactive in raising the profile of the Service within the School.
15.To maintain confidentiality in relation to student clients at all times.
16.To provide professional advice to academic and administrative staff on all health and welfare issues (with Head) while keeping up on current trends and best practice
