We are looking for a Head of Governance to join our management team and continue to develop our service and clinical standards across our facilities in the southern region.



Job Description

The Head Governance is the expert advisor on clinical governance and risk management, ensuring compliance with legislative requirements, national and local policy.

This vital role supports clinical and non-clinical leads and Clinical Directors in the delivery of clinical governance and risk management priorities across three of our sites which are based in Central London and Romford Essex, representing within HCA's corporate quality, governance and safety structures and to ensure that the HCA governance, risk and quality strategy is embedded in all facilities within the region.



Duties & Responsibilities

  • Represent our three sites in local, corporate, partnership and national governance and risk forums to ensure that changes in legislation, quality, safety and risk initiatives are delivered and embedded within the regional facilities.
  • Provide direction for the facilities to ensure a patient focused and evidence based clinical governance agenda is defined and reported to governance committees.
  • Ensure that processes to seek out patient satisfaction are fully embedded within the facilities and results are fully utilized to improve services through continual audit and monitoring.
  • Work closely with colleagues to develop systems for proactive risk management and ensure that robust risk management systems are in place to review adverse incidents, identify and implement actions, monitor progress and audit compliance.
  • Enable reporting and grading of incidents and root cause analysis is routine practice in all areas and is used to improve the quality of care and reduce unacceptable risks within the organisation.
  • Ensure Senior Management Teams are advised in a timely manner of high risk incidents, complaints or cases that might have a substantial impact on patient care or reputation of HCA.
  • Ensure that training and expert support is in place to assist managers in the investigation and root cause analysis of adverse incidents and provide support in conducting investigations.
  • To ensure that the facilities fully comply with HCA's safeguarding adults at risk of abuse and safeguarding children to meet the Care Quality Commission's Standards.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to ensure transparency and support the duty of candour, ensuring effective communication with regards to the implications of clinical risks and incidents and appropriate risk management



Skills & Experience

  • Postgraduate qualification in-depth training and/or significant experience in healthcare risk, governance or compliance within either the NHS or Private healthcare is essential.
  • Experienced communicating highly complex information to internal and external stakeholders and experience of making presentations to internal and external groups at Senior Management Level.
  • Enhanced knowledge of effective risk management systems
  • Possess well-developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and team
