As the Band 6 Registered Nurse you will lead on the clinical care of the children, ensuring their care planning, equipment and care package are delivered effectively and efficiently. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and use these to involve the families, carers, local and tertiary hospital providers in planning and delivering children’s care. You will also be a self-starter who enjoys working independently and is able to manage your workload effectively.

A key part of the role is to plan and deliver competency-based training for parents, Children’s Community Carers, Registered Nurses, school and nursery staff, so you need to be experienced in delivering training and effectively assessing competencies.

You will already have experience of working with children with complex and life-limited health needs, including ventilation and tracheostomy experience; in addition experience of working with children in the community would be an advantage. We provide excellent training, including mentorship courses, as well as access to training provided by specialist hospitals, such the Royal Brompton Hospital in London. Our specially designed training room recreates a child’s bedroom and has all the equipment needed to teach others how to care for a child, including ventilators, suction machine, a cot and mannequins to enable demonstration and practical skills training in tracheostomy care.

You will work mainly Monday to Friday however you will on occasions be required to work some unsocial hours to provide training to staff, evenings, and weekends, and you will also be required to participate in the clinical On Call Rota on a regular rota basis.
