Job Details

We know it takes happy, motivated staff to produce patient satisfaction, so we’re investing in making our hospitals great places to work. It’s about living our values: Passion, Responsibility, Innovation, Drive and Empowerment – the PRIDE at the heart of all we do.

We are proud that our Children’s services were rated Good by the CQC following our 2016 inspection with particular mention being given to the NICU community service.

You’ll also be playing your part in preparing the NHS for the future. We’re proud to be one of only five Trusts in the country to secure a place on the ground-breaking Virginia Mason Institute Programme to transform patient care, and we’re also one of eight new, national Vanguard sites spearheading transformational change in urgent and emergency care.

Our NICU is a busy level 2 Neonatal Unit located at the Queens Hospital site. It serves a maternity service that delivers between 7000-7500 births per year. We currently have 25 cots (11 ITU/HDU cots and 14 SC cots), however the neonatal services are in the process of establishing a further seven SC cots (due to centralisation of services). We provide excellent care for preterm babies from 27 weeks gestation on wards and for sick term newborn babies. We have close links with the North Central and North East London Neonatal Operational Delivery Network and Neonatal Transfer Services and we work collaboratively with the tertiary level units within the network who offer neonatal surgical and cardiac services for our babies.

The unit is well resourced with a wide range of support roles including an expanding team of ANNP’s, a Family Support nurse, an Infant Feeding nurse, a Practice Development nurse and a Neonatal community team.
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Matron to lead the unit. For this senior post we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual who is an impressive role model with proven leadership and management skills. You will play a key role in the ongoing development and expansion of the unit, be influential in the neonatal network and keen to explore innovative ways of working. Can you build high performing teams? Can you influence a culture where staff feel safe and supported in raising concerns? Can you ensure that parents are genuinely welcomed and seen as partners in their infants’ care?

We can offer you a bespoke programme of training to support your career development and enable to you to develop your professional profile both regionally and nationally.

There is an expectation that all applicants attend for an informal visit before the closing date to provide the opportunity to tour the unit and meet the staff. New staff appointed to posts at the Trust are subject to a probationary period. This will give the new staff member an opportunity to become familiar with the culture and working environment of the Trust.
