BMI Saxon Clinic in Milton Keynes is part of BMI Healthcare, Britain's leading provider of independent healthcare with a nationwide network of hospitals & clinics performing more complex surgery than any other private healthcare provider in the country. 

We have an opportunity for for an enthusiastic Registered Children's Nurse to join their team of staff in the Paediatric department.  This is an excellent opportunity to work in a welcoming environment to support the growth of the children and young people's services at BMI Saxon Clinic.  

The service encompasses both out-patient consultation services and day-case surgery.
BMI Healthcare has a robust training programme to support your development with additional training. 

This is a PART time role for 30 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.

Applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Paediatric Advanced Life Support
  • Registered  Child Nurse with NMC registration
  • Up to date knowledge in acute paediatric medicine / surgery
  • Awareness about Safeguarding Children processes
  • Aware of NMC code of Accountability
  • Basic workload / shift management skills
  • Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
  • Experience within an acute Children’s area or willing to undergo period of preceptorship
  • Basic Paediatric Life Support
  • Experience of customer care, including interacting with challenging customers and situations.

Duties of this role include:     

  • To ensure that standards of patient care are consistently maintained at all times in accordance with agreed operational policies and procedures as a skilled member of the nursing team.  To promote and safeguard the well-being and interests of all patients, employees and visitors.
  • To provide safe and effective care to allocated cohorts of patients up to the age of 18 years without direct supervision.
  • Conduct yourself professionally within the standard and framework provided by the Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) Codes of professional Conduct and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • To plan, implement and evaluate plans of patient care.
  • To carry out pre-assessments for paediatric patients who have been booked for an elective procedure.
  • Working towards agreed objectives and demonstrating BMI behaviours at all time.
  • To ensure the emergency paediatric equipment is checked on a daily basis and meets required guidelines, escalating to the Nurse in charge any deficits.
  • To ensure that own nursing practice is in accordance with hospital policies and guidelines and that professional practice is in accordance with the NMC Code.
  • To escalate any safeguarding concerns to the appropriate clinical leader or Executive Director.
  • To supervise unregistered members of staff, such as Healthcare Assistants, and ensure that tasks delegated to them are appropriate for delegation and that completion of tasks is monitored.
  • Demonstrate compassion through effective relationships based on empathy, respect and dignity.
  • To bring to the attention of the clinical leader, any factors that inhibit the delivery of high quality, safe, effective care or any instances or evidence of poor quality clinical care.
  • To assist in the setting and maintenance of clinical standards and participation in the Clinical Governance agenda.
  • To participate in investigations arising from complaints or incidents / near misses.
  • To work with senior staff to ensure the clinical environment is conducive to satisfactory and continuing education and training programmes.
