We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Nurse to join our surgical ward at The Wellington Hospital in St Johns Wood, London (NW8 9LE).

Our General Surgery service offers patients access to skilled surgeons who specialise in focusing on the abdominal or colorectal area. The procedures include an appendectomy, hernia repair, removal of the gall bladder and haemorrhoidectomy.


Job Description

The position of Staff Nurse will be responsible for providing high quality nursing through assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care for patients within the Surgical Team. The successful candidate will also promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care and the services offered within the Surgical Team.

You will be working in a 20 bedded unit and care for patients with elective surgery needs, specialising in ENT, colorectal, gastrointestinal, bariatric, back/spinal surgery, as well as reconstructive surgery.

* Full-Time, Permanent, position
* Hours: 37.5 per week
* Shift Pattern: 11.5 hour shifts (days, nights and weekends)
* Salary: £31,630-£35,822 per annum plus 9% shift enhancement

Duties & Responsibilities

* Work well within a team, supervising and directing junior staff and deputising for Senior Staff Nurses in their absence, always ensuring that patient care is at a consistently high level.
* Manage patient caseload effectively, prioritising care effectively.
* Initiate improvements and developments in clinical issues and delivery of care.
* Contributing to the ongoing research based care and other practice development initiatives.

Skills & Experience

* Registered General Nurse with post graduate experience.
* Proven Surgical experience.
* Motivated and forward thinking individual with excellent communication skills.
* Good time management and prioritisation skills.
* Phlebotomy training desirable.
