The Harley Street Clinic Children's Hospital is now expanding the paediatric services it offers to our patients, with the introduction of a new dedicated four bedded Paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant unit (PBMT). This exciting new unit will treat a variety of malignant and non-malignant haematology conditions in children and young people requiring blood and marrow transplantation, as well as providing autologous transplantation for specific oncology disorders.

This is an exceptional opportunity to work closely with world-leading paediatric haematology consultants, whilst receiving ongoing support from our in-house training and development team, allowing you to provide a seamless world-class service to children and their families.

The unit will be supported by HCA's Sarah Cannon Research Institute and will also be working towards obtaining JACIE accreditation.

Job Description

As a Senior Staff Nurse within the new PBMT unit you will work as a skilled member of the nursing team, providing a high standard of holistic family centred care to the children and their families.

Salary between £35,673 and £40401 (plus enhancements & benefits)

Duties & Responsibilities

  • To provide clinical expertise within the field of paediatric bone marrow and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT)
  • Awareness of and competence in the management of haematological emergencies
  • To have a clear understanding of the accreditation and regulation required when working within the field of paediatric bone marrow and HSCT and promote adherence to this at all times
  • Ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for the children and their families.
  • Ensure that each child is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated in negotiation with the family, and that this is accurately documented.
  • Promote Family Centred Care and ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring and safe environment for the children and their families.
  • Act as an advocate for the child and family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.
  • Awareness of the patient pathway for patients undergoing bone marrow / HSCT and ensure engagement with the wider multidisciplinary team to deliver a holistic approach to patient care
  • Communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, carers and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
  • Develop and maintain clinical skills and knowledge necessary to provide holistic, evidence based nursing care.
  • Competent in the administration of medication, systemic anti-cancer therapy and HSC and/or bone marrow infusions
  • To be familiar with the National and International protocols for the treatment of haematology disorders including both malignant and non-malignant disorders.
  • A full JD is available.

Skills/Qualifications

  • NMC Registered Nurse (RN Child / RSCN)
  • Assessing & Mentoring qualification
  • Evidence of ongoing dynamic continuing professional development within the speciality linked to demonstrable clinical competencies
  • Relevant courses / experience in paediatric bone marrow transplant nursing
  • Leadership or management training
  • Basic Life Support training
  • APLS/EPLS.
  • Safeguarding Level 3 course
  • 2 years or more post basic experience on an acute transplant unit
  • Effective managerial, leadership and organisational skills.
  • Administration of IV drugs.
  • Phlebotomy and insertion of IV lines
  • Central venous access management
